Have Ozonator - Some Challenges, Switch to Bromine?

@JoyfulNoise - Sorry, I meant do an ahhsome purge, drain, wipe down and then refill and do another awesome purge with chlorine (SLAM) level. Then I will refill the third time and balance. But I like your idea of doing once and adding chlorine. I was thinking about this last night and I...

Have Ozonator - Some Challenges, Switch to Bromine?

@JoyfulNoise - Thank you for your help!! I will do as instructed. Will do a double Ahhsome and empty each time. I have been adding 3oz. of 10% chlorine after each soak, may have missed too many of the non use days, as you suggested. A couple follow up questions if o.k. - How much chlorine...

Have Ozonator - Some Challenges, Switch to Bromine?

I have a new spa with ozonator. I read in one of the posts from @JoyfulNoise that an ozonator will destroy the chlorine and it may be better to use bromine. I have the Taylor K-2006C and would have to get the R-001 & R-002 to be able to test for bromine. For the first month or so I have been...

Spa Filter Cleaner - Ahh!some, Leisure Time or TSP?

Have read some posts on spa filter cleaners and wondering about which to use. Also wondering which Ahh!some, the one I have appears to be different than the one marked with “filter cleaner”, see pics. The first pic, with brown tarp behind it is the Ahh!some I have and did purge with. I have a...

    Help with Spa Startup

@phonedave - Thanks for the suggestion of pre pouring. I use those in the shop as well. For testing I fill up a generic squeeze bottle. Fill it up at the pool or spa and use it to fill up the test tubes. Super convenient, since you can squirt the exact amount you need in test tube. I...

    Help with Spa Startup

Upon filling my tub yesterday, here are the water values. I’ve not been able to add chlorine yet as local stores only had cal hypo. I can pick up some dichlor and liquid today as I will be in the big city:) I use a Taylor K-2006C. My source water (well) is very high TA. Ph 6.8-7 TA 290 CH...

    Help with Spa Startup

I have a large pool and have been following TFP methods for years. Test my water almost everyday. I just purchased an Aquaterra Viceroy acrylic spa from Costco and have it in place. Waiting for electrician to come wire up before filling. I looked through the Pool School book and the sticky...

Metered dosing of chlorine during daylight using Stenner pump

@Rancho Cost-a-Lotta - Thank you! I did a bunch of reading on SWG & stone. I’m none the wiser as a result LOL. Maybe I should take some pics of my pool and post it in SWG forum to ask about stone. You think that’s the best forum category? My pool is a little different in that I have a bunch...

Metered dosing of chlorine during daylight using Stenner pump

@Rancho Cost-a-Lotta - If an SWG is in any way an option for me I’d jump on it. 3ppm loss a day for me is close to a gallon and a half of chlorine a day. I’ll search threads on SWG and stone and see what I find. Thanks!! Sorry to interrupt OP’s thread but at least keeping it at top for him so...

Metered dosing of chlorine during daylight using Stenner pump

@Rancho Cost-a-Lotta - I wish SWG was an option for me. The amount of liquid chlorine I have to put in this full sun 48,000 gallon pool is expensive!! Unfortunately I have flagstone coping and a good bit of my flagstone waterfalls that are under the waterline.

Metered dosing of chlorine during daylight using Stenner pump

@Rancho Cost-a-Lotta I also use a chlorine dosing pump, although mine is a rolachem. It’s a simple motor with an analog dial. I just turn it up or down. It adds chlorine in doses, during the day (8am - 8pm) when pump is running. My CYA is currently 40. Should I consider using the SWG CYA...

Any Fix for High TA Fill Water

@mknauss - Thank you. I have a Pool Miser that automatically adds water that evaporates. I used the Evaporation Estimator in the Trouble Free Pool Further Reading article and it states that based on my conditions I can lose 1/2” - 1” of water a day. Just seems like I am fighting rising TA...

Any Fix for High TA Fill Water

I have been battling my high TA & PH every other day by MA. I’ll get it down to mid 7’s and a day or two later it’s back up to 8 or over. We were using the untreated line well water for the evaporation top off but it was contributing to high CH so we started using the water from our well...

Need an Alternative Way to Test CH

@arvil - He tried his titration kit last night but we did not neutralize chlorine. We will try again tonight and do that. May try the Hanna again as well with some R7. Using the Speed Stir neutralized most of the big red globs and made the change from red to blue discernible. My results of...
