Pool Heater not heating pool enough - undersized?

On Nat gas it is 1 therm per 100k btu per hour. In Texas it is $1/therm. So $1/therm*4 therm/hr *24 hr/day*30 day/mo=$2880/mo. Propane, even in bulk, is typically quite a bit more expensive. $2.50/gal in Texas - that would be $7200/mo if running 24/7!

Pool Heater not heating pool enough - undersized?

Ouch. A 400k btu heater costs about $100-$130/day to run, if constantly running. $3k-$4k/month... I don't need to go swimming in the winter that badly. Lol

    Too much chlorine

That's not that high then... Safe to swim in even. What exactly are you worried about? This time of year I lose about 2ppm chlorine per day. But it depends on temp, sun/uv, and how many contaminants are in the water.

Is This a Normal Heating Time?

Without knowing the exact volume, that sounds about right to me. You just can't compare the heat up time from a heat pump versus a gas heater that is four to five times larger.

    New Pool Settling and Borate-ing

I added borates after about 2 months. Other than my pH fluctuating faster than I wanted, the rest of my chemistry was stable before I added borates. If everything is stable other than pH, I would go ahead and add it. Adding borates was one of the best things I did to my pool. Now I can go...

    How much acid?

Depends on a number of things such as aeration, plaster age, water temp, as well as TA and borate level. My pool naturally runs around 7.8. I add acid when it gets above 8.0 and drop it down to about 7.5. I only have to do that about every 2 weeks. Before I added borates I had to do it every...

Freeze Protection - Pump was not on this morning even though temperature was 26

Same with mine. On mine it will alternate between pool and spa every 15 minutes until the temperature gets warm enough to disengage freeze mode. You may want to double check the temperature setting for freeze mode on your controller. It is configurable, if I remember correctly. Maybe someone...

    We Have Lift Off

Thanks for reminding me to fix my signature, I keep forgetting to do that (but have done so now). Yes it is a 3HP VSF. My lowest usable speed (35 gpm or about 1850 rpm) is clearly higher than yours. Mine is so high mainly because my spa overfill to my pool doesn't get enough flow without...

    We Have Lift Off

I also have the 520, and on mine at lower rpm it runs around 16 pounds and high rpm runs around 20. This is with completely clean filters. Right now mine is running 23.5 psi on high rpm 30 days after filter cleaning. 20 is not high for that filter, depending on the pump you have. And it is...

San Antonio here... I leave mine on 35. Could probably go 32, but the electricity is cheap so why cut it close?

Is this "Industry Standard" for a new Wet Edge Blue Cadet finish?

Except the one spot, the rest looks pretty normal to me. Sorry if your expectations are different than that though. I don't think you will have much luck getting them to do anything about the other areas.

    SLAM Level for Weekly Maintenance?

Pools go one of two ways. Either they drive away buyers that don't want to maintain a pool or have little kids and don't want to deal with the safety issues, or they slightly add value. And I mean very slightly.

Just started tfp method - pool still turning green, losing fc

Yes getting FC high of a couple times is not a slam. The M is arguably the most important part of the slam process.

Clearing trees from surrounding the pool

You're lucky then. During storms or decent wind I've seen pine needles go at least 15 feet from the edge of the tree. But it does depend on how tall the tree is too, obviously higher up needles have further to fall and can be moved further by the wind.

Clearing trees from surrounding the pool

30ft minimum. A lot of people won't want to do that, but any closer and you will definitely get pine tar and needles in the pool.

Yup, I LOVE the speed stir! Money well spent as far as I'm concerned!

help me help my brother with his pool. Please

What he has in there at present makes no difference though. Cya builds and doesn't go away very quickly (few ppm/month). So it is cumulative week on top of week on top of week on top of week....

    Can't find draining valve

it's not expensive everywhere. For my almost 15 thousand gallon pool it's only a couple hundred dollars to drain and refill it where I live.

sense and dispense changing ORP & control of SWG

Re: sense and dispense changing ORP & control of SWG With the caveat/adder of the word OUTDOOR, I agree with the last post. ORP and no CYA can work fine on indoor pools.

Calling Those of you without main or floor drains

Yes, there is, as has been mentioned numerous times in this thread. Whether it is a benefit/feature YOU want is a judgement call on your part.

    Trichlor Tabs

I would say that method works fine as long as you have OK fill water. [emoji3] If you are on well water, have high CH or metals in the fill, etc it can be a real pain to rebalance after refilling.

    Pentair Screenlogic help please

Try changing it from the panel instead of screenlogic. If you're over your maximum number of schedules screenlogic won't tell you, but if you change it at the panel it will throw an error about too many schedules. I learned that the hard way. That's the first thing I do if a schedule or...

    Pentair Intelliflo VSF Pump

I have the two horsepower intelliflow vsf and like it. I find as my cartridge filter delta pressure goes up, it does a great job of slightly increasing the RPMs to keep the same flow. I just noticed my signature says VSP, but I indeed have the vsf pump I'll get that fixed.

Calling Those of you without main or floor drains

Different people have opinions on the matter. The good part is that you're not really going wrong either way. This is more a matter of personal preference than a right vs wrong issue. So don't stress the decision too hard. You can have a really great pool either way.

Calling Those of you without main or floor drains

I would never build a pool without a floor drain. I find it much easier to keep the pool clean versus pools I've had without, and it is very handy to not worry about water level if on vacation (no autofill here) - I just turn off skimmers and take all suction from bottom drain. It also makes...

Stenner pump wiring in Pentair Easy Touch Panel

That's what I've been doing. I run my VS filter pump (at different speeds depending if cleaner is running etc) from 8am to 10pm. Right now I just run my Stenner 1pm to 4:30pm to meet chlorine needs. Should be fine as long as the pump is running like it is supposed to (which it always has, no...
