    Is CircuPool really the best?

I have a CircuPool SJ-40, it's 1.5 years old now and I haven't had a single problem with it. I really like that the cell housing is clear. It's super easy to check that the unit is working and that the plates are clean. I haven't had to clean my cell at all.

Should I put my heat pump on a timer?

My pool pump is on a timer and when it kicks on the flow switch in the heat pump (RayPak R4450TI-E) triggers the unit to turn on. I can't tell if just the fan is turning on or the compressor too. I've looked through the user manual and I'm not sure if there's a startup delay for the compressor...

Electrical requirements for pool equipment + spa

$125 for 100 feet of 6 AWG green THHN is too much. Home Depot has it for $60. The product listing says THHN, but it is rated THHN/THWN for 10-14AWG, and rated THHN/THWN-2 for 8AWG or larger. Their product brochure confirms this, and you can verify the markings on the wire in person. It's not...

Electrical requirements for pool equipment + spa

Okay so a few things: 1) Code requires that pools have an insulated ground conductor, which UF does not have. Even though you could run UF to the sub-panel and then THWN from the panel to your pump/timer, an inspector would probably have a problem with it, saying that the panel is dedicated to...

What type of breakers for pool panel?

You can absolutely used stranded wire in conduit. Just ran 8 AWG stranded THWN-2 a few months ago to my heat pump. Stranded wire is very common for larger gauge wire.

    Electric Heat Pump Brand Reccomendations

I have the desired temperature set on my heat pump and when the pump turns on the flow switch triggers the unit to turn on as long as the water temp is below the setpoint. My folks have a Jandy automation system and have their heater connected so they can switch the heat pump from pool settings...

    Electric Heat Pump Brand Reccomendations

I have a Raypak heat pump, an 80,000 BTU model, that was installed a few months ago (December 2018). My brother-in-law has the same unit at his house and it's about 4-5 years old now and going strong. They're constructed very well and do the job, not much else to say about it! My folks have a...

Seeking SWG data points in South FL summers

I live in Palm Beach and I have a CircuPool SJ-40. I have it set to 25% output for 6 hours per day. Keeps my FC at a stable 3-4ppm.

    What's your current pool temp?

Pool has been sitting at 93 degrees for the past two weeks:cool:. Heat pump brought it up to temperature and the solar panels and solar cover are maintaining this temperature.

Using a SaltWater pool as a water source

In that type of situation I would use the pool water for bathing and flushing toilets. Keep drinking water on hand, but make sure to rotate it out regularly. Down here in South Florida our stores can run out of drinking water days before a hurricane hits.

    Pool heater worth it?

I live in Florida, but I would say definitely go for the heater, especially if you're building a new pool. You're going to want to get the most use out of it as possible. An electric heat pump is going to be the most efficient, but the slowest to heat the pool. A natural gas heater can add a few...

    Making My Own SWG

If you're using a pre-made cell, it's not really making your own SWCG is it? The cell is the hard part to make considering they're typically titanium plates that are then coated in another metal. I don't see anything that would be difficult about putting together your own power supply for the...

Has anyone ever brushed their pool...

I've skimmed my pool while inside. I haven't brushed my pool in over a year! 6 hours of the vacuum running around daily keeps it nice and clean. Also helps having a screened in pool...

Orlando Florida Heat Pump Efficiency (Schedule?)

You need a cover, that's for sure. Run the heat pump during the warmest time of the day since that's when it will be the most efficient. You may have to run it overnight to keep the temperature where you want it, but you'll just have to see what works for your conditions.

    What's your current pool temp?

79°F. I forgot to open the valve to the solar panels these last few days so I missed out on some good heat! Had the pool at 85°F on Christmas with my new heat pump. No solar cover right now (just ordered one) so I'm losing a lot of heat at night as its been dipping into the 60's.

    heat, Heat, HEAT!

A heat pump should be significantly cheaper to run than your gas heater, especially with the cover. What heat pump are you looking at that's 140k BTU and pulls 30 amps? A Raypak 8450 is 140k BTU and min circuit ampacity is 42.

Pump making rattling noise after skimmer level got too low

I wasn't paying attention and my pool's water level got too low, causing the skimmer to pull in air. There was still water in the skimmer and the main drain was open as was the suction cleaner line. The pump didn't run dry, nor did it lose prime. The pump is a 1/2hp Hayward Tristar, and it's...

Are any of the current Intex SWG models worth using in an inground pool?

I thought about it, but ended up getting a Circupool SJ-40 (buy an SJ-20 from Discount Salt Pool and it's a free upgrade to the SJ-40). Most of the year I only have to run it at 25% output, a few months in the middle of the summer I bump it up to 50%. Hopefully it will last a long time running...

    Mix and Match Pump/Filter

Absolutely. I have a Hayward pump and a Jandy cartridge filter. A cartridge filter is a passive device, it doesn't care how the water gets to it.

    Pavers or Concrete around Pool?

Pavers 100%, it's better to spend the money upfront and be done with it. I have travertine pavers around my pool, it looks beautiful and it doesn't get hot at all. I have regular pavers on my driveway while most of my neighbors have concrete driveways and the pavers look 50x better. Concrete...

    Biting Ants

I've had good luck with Taurus SC as a perimeter/barrier spray, and Bifen I/T as a lawn spray. Bifen I/T says that it's good for carpenter ants. Taurus SC is fipronil, so you need to be a little more careful with that product, I apply that product on the exterior walls of my house, I had ants...

Pump run times and speeds.... am I running it way too much?

What if you ditched that cleaner and went with a robot instead? That's the only thing I could see that would make a dent on your electric bill, but your break even is probably close to 4 years, depending on your electricity usage and the $$ of the robot. Probably not a great investment. I have...

    Travertine - grouting?

What's everyone's opinion on grouting travertine pavers? My patio pavers and pool coping are all travertine, but the coping is grouted. I applied polymeric sand to the rest of the pavers, but I don't think I did a good job as I've been losing a lot of sand. It's been about 2-3 month now, and...

    Wet conduit

Why not just shorten the horizontal run of conduit you have? Shorten it to give you some extra wire length, then throw an elbow on it and run the conduit vertically high enough that you pass the water line. You can then put a j-box at the point, do the splices, and then take it from there?

    dark gunite or not

If I were you I would look at as many pictures online you can of different color plasters. If you can see it in person, even better. My pool has a light blue plaster and I really like it. My folks had a blackish gray plaster in their pool and they didn't like it (was that way when they bought...

can't keep a/c in the room...

He added more refrigerant, but didn't fix any leak? Your A/C won't lose refrigerant if there's not a leak, it should have the same amount of refrigerant it had 2 years ago. If it cooled properly for the last 2 years, then it sounds like you have a leak!

    Liquid chlorine and SWG

Have you ever put stabilizer (CYA) into the pool, or used chlorine tablets? If you have no stabilizer, it will be hard for your SWCG to keep up.
