Lower water level in pump basket running pump at lower RPM's?

I wanted to revisit this since I realized something I didn't do right. Since I redid the whole equipment pad I had emptied all of the sand out of the filter and removed the laterals. When I reassembled it I am pretty sure I put the lateral screens facing up. Could this cause some issue? I plan...

    Doheny's pump parts?

I would replace the pump. We had a Doheny 1.5 hp pump and our electric bill was crazy and we barely ran the pump but a couple hours a day. Now we have a variable speed pump and run it 15 hours a day and only costs $18 a month to run. I have our old Doheny pump if you want it and want to drive...

Can't Open for 2-3 weeks, how to proceed

If your water is fairly clear and no CC's I would add the baking soda to raise the PH and TA. Even at least half of what pool math shows to get started and add more if needed to get to the correct level. Get your CYA up to at least 20 or 30 and get FC accordingly. It helps that you have the pump...

Chlorine consumption seems to be double this year. Why?

CYA could definitely be the main culprit. That is a big difference between your CYA levels. I have noticed a big difference in FC loss during the day just being down to 60 from our normal 80. We have had a ton of rain and I am working on raising it back up.

Lower water level in pump basket running pump at lower RPM's?

I have been trying different valve settings and doesn't seem to be making a difference. If I run the pump at a little higher rpm (2,200) it pretty much fills the basket to the lid other than a couple of quarter sized bubbles that stay there. It seems like there are bubbles that randomly appear...

    Bubbles in pool intake problem

Are you bleeding the air from the filter as you prime the pump? Sounds like you might have a sand filter with a multiport valve?

Lower water level in pump basket running pump at lower RPM's?

Thanks Jim. I will give that a shot. I may even get lucky and just have to tighten the screws on top of the valves since they are new or maybe it is just a bad o-ring from the factory. I didn't even give it a thought to the valves possibly being an issue and once you said something I realized...

Lower water level in pump basket running pump at lower RPM's?

One other thing to note also is I do not have any check valves in the plumbing. I guess technically it shouldn't matter as long as everything is air tight on both the pressure and suction sides when the pump is off the water shouldn't drain back. I will mess with the Jandy valves and also try to...

Lower water level in pump basket running pump at lower RPM's?

Jim, I do have two of the Jandy 3 way valves in front of the pump. One for the two skimmers and one to bring the bottom drain and the skimmers together right before going in to the pump. I was having the pump run 24/7 but last night I changed the schedule to only run from 9am to 9pm at 1750 rpm...

Lower water level in pump basket running pump at lower RPM's?

I pulled all of the unions apart along with the lid to the pump and applied lube to all of the orings just to see if it makes a difference. We have been having nothing but rain this week with more on the way the next three days so it is a little hard to keep an eye on the water level inside the...

Lower water level in pump basket running pump at lower RPM's?

I came across another thread while doing some reading and made me curious about the water level in the pump basket. I noticed if I am running the pump at 1750 rpm or higher the pump basket is always full with no air. However if the pump is being run at 1400 or 1600 rpm it will gradually drop the...

Ideas on removing some stain spots on the liner.

This was the best opening of the pool in the last 7 years thanks to you guys and TFP. We have a couple of stain spots which I originally thought were organic but the spot I tested did not lighten up when I held a puck over it for a few minutes. So we went to the store last night and got some...

Salt test results compared to SWG readings?

I think the way our pool is laid out makes it difficult to get the water to circulate from one end to the other. It is a lazy L shape with the two skimmers, one in each corner of the deep end and one return nozzle in each corner of the shallow end. I might see about getting smaller nozzles for...

Salt test results compared to SWG readings?

Thank you. I will wait to do anything with adding or diluting. Checking it was set on the correct cell was one of the first things I did because of hearing about it could cause damage. Looking forward to the learning process and see how it does. The pool is from the late 70's or early 80's and...

Salt test results compared to SWG readings?

We made the switch to a SWG and variable speed pump this year. Finally got all of the plumbing done and everything hooked up. Opened the pool Monday night and surprisingly it didn't look bad other than more silt settled on the bottom than expected. We did do a retaining wall and the yard around...

New plumbing finally done for salt water setup.

Thanks Jim. I have a feeling I will end up running the pump 24/7 and run the salt cell at a lower percentage. We were averaging 3ppm FC per day last year when I was doing it manually. I ended up taking the cover off the pool last night and ran the cleaner for a cycle to get the majority of the...

New plumbing finally done for salt water setup.

Thanks Jim. Looking forward to using the SWG. Going to pull the cover back a little bit tonight and do some water testing. I know I need to bring the chlorine up some but I want to see where the ph levels are now along with CYA. Then test the current salt level and dump what we should need...

New plumbing finally done for salt water setup.

It's been a lot of work redoing the retaining wall around the pool. Still have a final grading to do along with grass seed and fencing. We will be doing pavers next year after the budget rebounds. I have had the Circupool RJ-60 and Variable speed pump sitting in the basement waiting to be...

Where did you buy your safety cover?

We just got ours this year from Doheny and they sell a couple of different brands. We went with the GLI Products 99% sun blockage mesh with 15 year warranty. We have a large lazy L shape and it had to be custom ordered. Was a little over $2,100. Still need to install it though. - - - Updated -...

Cleaning pool after excavating for retaining wall.

Wasn't sure about the best forum to ask this in. Just had our pool water sparkling clean after doing a SLAM a couple weeks ago. We had a wood timber retaining wall that the previous owner put in long before we bought the house. The wall has been in bad shape for the last couple of years and this...

    Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus issues

Curious if anyone else has had issues with one of their drive tracks popping off? The left track when look at it from the rear is the one that always pops off. I would venture to say one in every three cleanings and possibly more it happens. The next to last time it did it, the belt was also off...

Make the switch now before closing the pool or wait till Spring?

Just received my RJ-60 Plus and VJ-3 VS pump yesterday. Wondering if I should make the switch now or wait till we open the pool in the Spring? Currently coming to an end of a SLAM and we have been having warmer weather than normal. I am expecting not to close the pool till mid October till the...

    Howdy from South Central PA

Yep, added 2 cups of DE 1/4 cup at a time mixed with water in a buck to the skimmer till the pump read 1 psi higher. I was able to brush the pool twice last night. I leave for work at 5am and get home around 5:30 pm so not able to stir it up during the day. Curious to see what it looks like when...

My CC has been 0 for the last couple days. The water is nice and clear when everything is settled to the bottom. I will keep the chlorine at shock lever another day.

SLAM'ed the pool for the last two days. OCLT was 1ppm or less this morning. Water is pretty clear except for when I stir up any sediment. Going to let the FC start dropping and put the Nautalis in when I get home. New safety cover is going to be delivered today so I plan on laying it out and...

    Howdy from South Central PA

After the second drain and refill I am now sitting at a CYA of 50. Just dispensed enough bleach to get the pool up to 20ppm FC and going to test it in the morning. Safety cover should be here this week but I will most likely wait till second week of October to close this year just to see how the...

Getting ready to make the plunge to SWG and variable speed pump

I did place the order for the Circupool RJ-60 Plus and the VJ-3 pump. Won't be till spring till I can post my results but hopefully all will go well. One question I did want to ask is we have a pool house with a bathroom which is basically a shed and the pump equipment is right beside it...

    Howdy from South Central PA

Thanks for the tip. Most of it should be used here in the next week. Currently draining the pool again to refill to lower the CYA level. Once I get it in check I need to SLAM the pool due to algae. I want to get it cleared up before we close it. We definitely fell short this year in maintaining...
