I bought the purest I could find and it works great. Raised CH without affecting other variables and the water seems perfect.

I wish I could find it but someone last year posted to the effect that the only purpose of the R-0870 powder is to turn the sample pink (assuming FC is present). Meaning, if one scoop turns the water pink then that's all that's needed. This has saved me time and $ as I too test often.

Thanks, gonna try air locking again. Not confident I seated the plug in the threads. I hope I'm making the right decision, but I haven't read any other threads complaining that these plugs routinely pop out.

Assuming you're talking about the threaded part of the fitting being stuck, I had this problem. I drilled a hole through the sides of my eyeball wrench so I could push a screwdriver through. This let me turn it like a tire wrench and it did the trick easily.
