Help - Pool open but planned power outage - freezing temps

thanks for the additional advice We haven’t experienced the planned outage YET. Just trying to plan ahead and determine if I should drain equipment. the electric water heater is like what’s used by farmers to keep their water troughs from icing over. It’s placed just outside the skimmer in...

Help - Pool open but planned power outage - freezing temps

Thanks Maddie! We definitely have a layer of ice formed across the top of our pool but we continually break it up and as mentioned to texassplash keeping a water heater by the skimmer. I’m just trying to decide on taking the chance for the hour or less it may be off or draining equipment when...

Help - Pool open but planned power outage - freezing temps

I keep our pool open year round and run pump when temps fall below freezing. I live in Oklahoma and it’s been below freezing for over a week now; pump has been running the entire time. Oklahoma just announced rolling/planned outages (15 mins to 1hr); unknown when/if my area will be shut off...

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

UGH!!! So yesterday evening, I thought I saw my annoying brown streak (very faint) again so I asked my husband if he saw the same thing. He couldn’t see it. So, I just brushed the area along w the rest of the pool, added my chlorine and shrugged it off. I also ran my vacuum for about 16 hrs...

Ok - will try that! May even brush my known “issue” areas every day for now. Thank you!

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

last questions (for now ?) To avoid this issue going forward and especially during the hot summer days how do others maintain “target”? My routine maintenance is to add chemicals at night to bring FC to upper limit of “target”. By the next evening, my FC levels are above the minimum (anywhere...

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

This morning FC loss 0.5 CCs 0.5 (has been 0 in mornings through SLAM until today) Water is clear I may do another day of SLAM even though I technically passed because I’m concerned w the CCs as I understand it means there’s something the chlorine is attacking? I just want to avoid this...

Lol - thanks for sticking it out. I thought about just changing my pressure gauge to see if it’s gone bad/faulty ??‍♀️

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

About 8-9 hrs (3-4 in the morning) and about 5hrs evening into night. Which is what I did last summer and had no problems until I went out of town this summer and let the FC levels get too low. I suspect as others have told me I just didn’t get rid of my problem (although I thought I had cause...

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

1 - no as of last Thursday (I haven’t had it off since I started SLAM so not sure about last few days). Yes - about 2 months ago but I resolved that problem by replacing the leaking hose and a seal around the chlorinator lid. 2 - nothing different from the 3 years I’ve seen it operate...

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

Update - yesterday, raised FC to 14 and brushed the stubborn area multiple times. Anytime I added chlorine, I did directly over the area. At sunset, I raised FC to 16. This morning my FC was 15, 0 CCs, and although the obvious brown-green streak was not visible it seems there was still a...

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

Nothing different than I’ve seen for the 3 years other than a couple months ago I wasn’t holding prime. A small hose (connects to chlorinator feeder) was leaking so I replaced it and resolved the issue. More recent, I noticed minimal amount (drops) of water at the base of the chlorinator...

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

Thanks for the detailed response. I may try a higher FC level for a couple days. This particular area is just to the right and forward of the deep end return where I add the chlorine. So, I will pour it directly above this particular area. I’ll keep at it. As for my filtration, I backwash...

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

Ok - thanks Jezza Just making sure I’m on track and not missing something I should be doing otherwise cause this algae is so stubborn. My past SLAMs were different in the discolorations on walls and water clarity cleared early on but my FC loss and CCs kept me at it for awhile. I’ll keep up...

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

This morning I passed 2 of 3 (0 FC loss, no CCs) but the green- brownish thin streak is back w a few other very small patchy areas of green/brown. I can see the bottom of the pool but would say the water is still a little dull although someone else may not see “dull” and call it clear. Only...

It’s back but so light it’s not really visible in the picture. I’ve circled where the discoloration on the wall is forming.

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

This morning I only lost 0.5 FC but water is still not crystal clear (looks dull), but I can easily see the bottom. And the thin greenish-brown streak (about 3 inches long) on the rounded wall was back! ? plus I noticed a few other small areas of discoloration on the walls near ledges. So I...

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

I’m guessing the latter because I’ve been very careful w my fc levels since my SLAM earlier this summer and not wanting to experience another and here I am! Ugh I definitely brush! Sometimes 3x/day. No ladders here. I took my lights apart, brush steps, run my vacuum almost continuously, etc...

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

Well, that’s not good. I even did an extra day of SLAM for good measure once I passed OCLT. Oh well, back at it again. I still wonder if ph factors in at all. Mine tends to run high, pushing 8 some days. Is chlorine more effective at lower ph ranges? Thanks to both of you!

    Pool Chemistry vs water appearance

this will be my second SLAM this summer so a little bummed. My first SLAM was because my levels got below recommendations while out of town but since then I’ve been diligent. I thought if I kept levels within range and/or above minimums all should be good? ??‍♀️ I’ll give it another go...

So, my chemistry this morning free chlorine 5 Cc - 0 ph 7.8 TA 50 CH 225 CYA 30 During the day, fc may drop to 3.5 but at night I raise it back to the upper limit of target range for CYA (currently 30) if not a little more just because with high temps I want to ensure I maintain above...
