Pool/deck demolition and removal, input needed

I need to take down both my AGP and wooden deck (surrounding it at top level). It is a steel 33' oval with 45-degree braces at the sides. I have no idea on who I should talk to about doing this (pool contractors just seem interested in taking down the pool part and cite removing some "pins" as...

Removing in-ground "anchors" of oval pool

I am tearing down my oval pool and am finally getting to where I can get at the vertical metal that support the steel pool wall. There is a separate column of metal nested inside each vertical. They look like they've been driven into the ground. Before I go any further with this I was wondering...

Rusty wall section under skimmer bulging outward

Need some urgent help as I'm afraid I'm going to lose my pool. The water dripping below my skimmer has created a rusty line downward that has worsened over the years. Now the wall section (and liner) under the skimmer is bulging outward. Small dripping occurring on the ground but not sure...

Safe to recirc without sand or lateral assembly?

Hi all Waiting on new lateral assembly. Until then I need to keep the water moving so I can chlorinate and get CYA to where it needs to be. Will recirc work (safely) without the lateral pipes or sand? Thanks.

Is this part of a lateral?

Found lodged in the return jet nozzle. Seems thin to be from the standpipe.

    AGP power switch testing/replacement

I have a Hayward pump (Power Flo Matrix, maybe a Canadian version, with a rotating filter chamber) that will not start. No click, no noise, nuthin. I would like to see if the power switch is bad. What would be the best way to test for this? Thanks!

    Can this be repaired?

Very annoying as the rest of the vacuum head is in perfect shape. Do not want to buy a new one. All the repair parts I see are for the thing that attaches to this. Thank you!

Does low pH make water use chlorine faster?

Just raised a super low pH up to 7.6. Wondering if the low pH has had anything to do with the jugs of 12.5% chlorine I'm going through (about two a day with CYA of 35)? Thanks.

    Removing sand from floor

Hi all. Just replaced broke laterals and now in the process of removing a bit of sand from the floor. Trying to vacuum to waste and then tried to filter but not getting very far. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks!

Trying to remove lateral pipe stuck in filter head

Hi all. Trying to remove the remaining 5 or so inches of a broke off lateral standpipe from the filter head. We've had several attempts at pulling and twisting. Also drilled holes to run a bar trough for leverage but the pipe material breaks up around the holes. My worry is I'll break off the...

New pump - did I overdo it?

I recently picked up a Doheny house brand 1.5hp pump. The existing filter is a Hayward 210T and from what I can tell has a designed flow rate of 44 GPM. The pump is apparently 83 GPM (dumb I know, wasn't even thinking about it). There is some, but not a lot, of sand settling onto the backwash...

Back of replacement impeller rubbing against housing - safe to use?

I am currently reassembling pump to replace a broken impeller. This is in reference to an earlier thread but I'm starting a new one as some time has passed. I'm putting the impeller on (this is the nicer 1.5 hp one that has a brass stem) and it feels like the back is rubbing against the...

Impeller help needed - please see picture

I'm trying to run my pump and it seems to start well. However no water is flowing and there's a loud rattle. I tool apart the housing and found the following... ...what do I need to do? Don't want to go any further without consulting the forum. Thank you!

So much bleach...still cloudy...burning through FC.

So I've spent about $40 this week attacking a cloudy pool. Getting it and keeping it at recommended shock is a bear and it seems to drop down to between 5-10 in less than a day. I am scrubbing and vacuuming...could be doing a better job but I don't remember anything like this two years ago...

Vacuum head replacement connector to pole

I recently broke the pivoting connector to my triangle-shaped vacuum head. I'd like to find a replacement as the rest of the head still works fine and the connector can be easily removed. I'm having a hard time finding just this part and am wondering if anyone knows the proper term for this...

Would sawing off 1 1/4" taper improve circulation?

It seems every connector I have (hose fittings, vacuum head, etc) has a smaller diameter at the beginning. Does anyone remove that part of the adapter to improve flow rate?

What kind of pad is this?

I'm in the middle of replacing our AGP's liner. I expect to find sand at the bottom because of the squishy and uneven feel over the years. Instead we found this (very stinky too): It almost looks like wall foam duct-taped together. Should I try to keep? It is kind of wrinkly and uneven. Do I...

Pumping remaining water out with pool pump

I have about a foot or so of (gross) water I need to get out for liner replacement. Is is possible to use the pool pump to do this given that it would either be sitting on the deck or I'd have to find a longer hose and go over wall? Any placement/priming issues? Thanks!

Folding down old liner for bed.

I've had a couple of pool contractors look at doing the work for replacing our liner. One stated that he wanted to cut the walls of the old one into vertical strips to lay down flat, keeping it all as a bed for the new liner. It seems my wrinkly old liner would just make the bottom of a new one...

Awesome liner deal - so what's the catch?

http://www.poolsupplies.com/product/sku/KC18334 $299 (plus a $30 discount on top of that) for 25mil. This is what my pool needs but...just wondering here if there's something I'm not seeing. Anyone here bought from them? All other this size at other online stores are around $600.

    Beaded liner installation help needed.

Beaded liner is torn from dry rot near the edge along the beading and needs replacement. I've gotten some quotes and they're, at the cheapest, $1,000 ($600 for 33x18 20g liner, rest is labor) or more depending on any additional floor prep needed. Is this a something that is doable for a...

    Odd oval liner replacement size

I had a pool contractor come out to give me a quote on liner replacement. I was not sure if the length was 32ft or 33ft so he measured it and said it was 32' 6" x 18' 3". He added that the liner needed to be sized exactly right so with that a custom-sized liner would have to be ordered. The...

Low water all winter, tears along top

I'm getting ready to refill my pool which has had a little under a foot of water in it all winter. I've been basically mixing in a little bleach every few days and swirling to keep the algae down. Near the top I noticed a tear of several inches along with a few other smaller oval patterned...

    Pump without capacitor

My pump, after about a week of inactivity, will not longer start. However it will hum when powered on. After reading many of the posts on these threads I'd like to check the capacitor. The pump (an older Hayward power flo) just has a cap on the back. No top bulge. It seems in the past I tried...

Determining make/model of above ground pool

I'm trying to confirm the dimensions of our AGP and at this point would like to know the manufacturer of it as well as model number/name. A lot of it is covered by a deck and half of it is pretty tight access. If there's a "typical" place I can get this info I'll crawl under. Just need to know...

    Finding an oval liner installer

I (in Central Kentucky) have been told there is no one within 200 miles that will install a replacement liner for me because the pool is oval. I asked what it was about "oval" that was so terrible and he said something about trouble of installing without wrinkles or other deformities I guess...

Old Hayward pump - which model is it?

One of the retaining slots on the lid of my pump broke and I need to order a replacement. Looking at the casing I can see that it is a Power-Flo. Where I'm confused is that there are two different numbers that could be the model. The first are some "mechanized"-looking numbers identical to the...
