Stubborn algae can't be brushed off

I know for sure that these are algae because it all goes away when I slam the pool. I'm just not used to algae that I can't brush away. It's fine now that I slammed it, but I find it really odd that that with just a few days of neglect, it grows to a point where I can't brush it off at all...

Stubborn algae can't be brushed off

I have a spot on my pool that has extremely stubborn algae. I've tried brushing it off with a brush using metal bristles. A solid 50 back/forth strokes didn't do that much sadly. In the past, I was able to brush the algea and it would basically 'dust' off into the pool and would be easy to...

    Can't explain high chlorine loss

Yah; might be right. I should definitely test it overnight to get a sense of where that stands. I use a Taylor kit (the one with all of the rare tests that you don't perform very often) It's always possible, but I did go completely nuclear on it for a while to clear all of the heavy algae...

    Can't explain high chlorine loss

I've been having issues keeping the chlorine in the pool ever since the water has been reset after 1.5yr of stagnant water and I've never quite experienced this unless I'm not measuring things right. In the past, I used to add less than half a gallon of liquid 10% chlorine daily and that used...

    CYA reading struggles

Ahh that's super useful to know. I ordered one to get a sense of it. 13$ won't break the bank to be better prepared :) Thanks. Makes sense for FC level-setting. Thanks. It's just tricky because a careful eye can almost always spot the dot, but 100% agreed with you. The pool stores used to...

    CYA reading struggles

Hi, I recently reset my pool and have had to adjust my CYA again. I'm struggling a bit with the reading of the levels. ie: At what point does the black dot fully disappear. I'm wondering if I'm not too picky about when the dot really vanishes. The pool store measures my CYA at 58, which...

Diverter valves expected to leak a little bit?

Hi, I recently redid part of my plumbing to add a Jandy diverter valve. The idea was that I could finally vacuum to waste by diverting the water out and shield the filter from it. From the looks of it however, it looks like the valve always leaks a very tiny amount of water. I see a tiny bit...

    Dolphin nautilus cc plus HELP

For what it's worth, I've had of these and it's been an absolutely low quality product. I had a Tigershark prior to this and although minor wear & tear pieces would break every once in a while, it was easy to fix. With this vacum cleaner, my first died in less than 2yrs due to issues with...

    Simple Pentair Automation

I personally use a sonoff 4ch r3 which I din mounted in my old electrical box. I've added a couple of din mounted contractors to safely control the motors and now I have every solely controlled through wifi (with manual switches to turn things on/off/auto). It controls my lights, my filter...

    Check valve placement

Hi, I think I understand how the check valve is supposed to work and why, but wanted to verify my thinking here first before engaging into that change on my pool. I currently don't have a check valve anywhere and I'd like to add one so that my pump won't run dry every time I clean my filter...

Post construction pool opening vs heavy amounts of dirt?

Oh wow, that's perfect. Yah I'll do that. Thanks. Didn't realize that was an option, but makes sense especially given the setup you've shown above.

Post construction pool opening vs heavy amounts of dirt?

Hi, Long story short, we have a ton of dirt in the pool and need to get rid of it post 1yr of construction. I'm looking for the easiest/most cost effective way to address that situation. I've tried vacuuming, but noticed after a mere minute of it that dirt was being pushed back into the pool...

    New filter or no?

I've been running my pool with the same equipment for 15 years and our filter is now in need of repair. The metal assembly clamp and nut were stripped entirely and now no longer clamp/screws in. They clearly need to be replaced, but this posits the question of whether I'm better off buying a...

How often should I change my pool's water?

Oh that's awesome. I used the app, but didn't notice that it had the option to calculate all of the side-effects. Very cool. Thanks for the heads up. I'm already using TFP, but yes I see int he app now that SWG doesn't actually affect chemistry outside of what it's supposed to. My concern...

How often should I change my pool's water?

Hi, I'm in California and trying to be water-wise and figure out what's the rate at which we should be changing the pool's water. I'm not talking about replacing the water. I'm talking about pumping it out of the pool and replacing it with 'fresh' water. Naturally I know it'll depend on what...

    Nautilus CC Plus performance issues

I don't run it everyday, but it's not far from that. Every other day I'd wager.

    Nautilus CC Plus performance issues

Yes I do have these filters. They are the pleated types and not the meshes. I even tried to purchase another set from amazon but that didn't change anything. It does pick up a bit of dirt/grime to be clear. But it does seem to leave a fair amount of it behind as well :/

    Nautilus CC Plus performance issues

Hi, I have a Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus and it does a fantastic job at picking up the leaves and smaller organic junk that falls into the pool. Unfortunately I don't feel like it petrforms well at all as it relates to picking up sand/dirt or even algea that may have bloomed on the walls of the...

Small amount of algae constantly growing on walls

Yah raising the CYA probably does make sense here. Thanks. I think I'll give that a try.

Small amount of algae constantly growing on walls

Yah given the choice, I would definitely polish it or go with quartz. It's certainly true for the robot however. But by the same stance, the robotic cleaner also tends to tear off little pebbles (at least it used to once we first got it done). Not so much anymore after 12 years. I meant that...

Small amount of algae constantly growing on walls

Hi, I've been following the ABCs for a while now and my numbers are all within range as far as I can tell yet when I brush at times, I still see a small layer of green algae being peeled off of the walls. I SLAM my pool and brush it heavily and despite being within range, algae still seems to...

    Chlorine Wash vs Acid Wash

Got it. Thanks for the help. I'm thinking an empty/clean/refill may be cheaper at a later time when I have to refill the pool anyways due to high CH.

    Chlorine Wash vs Acid Wash

So if I'm understanding correctly, you're saying you can SLAM the pool for multiple days to get rid of it? How many days would I have to sustain the high FC levels if that's the case? So far levels have been > 12 for ~48hrs. Or is this not really practical and it would be best to empty/clean?

    SWG cheaper than liquid chlorine?

Yes I am. It's at 700. 5x less than it would need for an SWG right now.

    Chlorine Wash vs Acid Wash

Hi, I've been noticing over the years that my pool has been getting larger/darker algae stains that are simply not going away. My first attempt to get rid of it of course was to SLAM the pool (15ppm Cl, 30 CYA, 7.5pH, 370Ca) for 24 hrs with heavy brushing every 6-12hrs but that didn't get rid...

    SWG cheaper than liquid chlorine?

It's true that it's not needed, but I would assume that it improves circulation given that the jets are all at the top. As for the heat exchangers, there's 2 common materials for them (copper, cupro nickel). The first one tends to be used in cheaper exchangers and tend to have lower...

    SWG cheaper than liquid chlorine?

Yah I like the idea of the RRJ60 since I can run it at a lower power and/or for a shorter amount of time. I currently run the pump for roughly 4hrs/day and that puts me roughly I the RJ60 range if I want to do that and add the proper amount of chlorine.
