Fine Dust Particles from Nearby Construction (No flocculant?)

Interesting... Yes I suggest adding a bit of DE to the filter, or just vac to waste. My DE filter gets rid of very fine particles very well.

^^ thank you! turns out, I can get the part for the existing pump... but at probably 20yrs old, is it worth it.... $150 to kick the can down the road...

    Need pump recc' asap!

old Challenger High Pressure 345201 pump just broke - backplate blew a piece off, no salvaging it. Is there a go-to pump? basic, vfd or 2-speed, no automation or anything. need it asap. Quality over price. 1.5+hp. 90% of the time I ran the old one at low speed to circulate. Thanks in advance for...

Correct way to abandon in-floor system?

this was my thought as well... get rid of as much of it as possible. Dallas area, pool stays 'open' year round, no need to blow it out, but want to abandon it cleanly.

Old owner - starting over drain/refill due to high salt

amazon or ebay for bulk calcium chloride pssst - some 'snow melt' is almost pure calcium chloride and much less $$ why did you totally drain? now you will have to add salt, CYA etc to get back to normal.

Correct way to abandon in-floor system?

Yes in floor system been shut off for years, using wall returns only. one powers the pressure-side cleaner, the others spin the pool water with the smile-shaped eyeballs. works great, really good circulation even with the pump on low.

Correct way to abandon in-floor system?

had the pool re-plastered - in-floor system was fully functional but never used it, didn't do anything to keep the pool clean. I had the contractor abandon the jets in the pool. Now, how to I 'properly' abandon the water distribution system @ the pump? I assume just cut it all off and cap it.

    Refresh a 33k gunite pool

Should be finalizing the contract in the next couple days. leaning towards the 'CrystalStones' product. Installer says the difference between Pebbletech & Crystal stones is the manufacturer - they see the same quality etc and have same warranty. Looking at one of the blues on the left. Light...

    Refresh a 33k gunite pool

So I had a sit-down with the company and I'm not touching the light. I was thinking to do the light as a preventative measure only - we really don't use it. He basically said 'if it ain't broke don't touch it' so that's what we'll do! So on the tile, they provided 2 different options - replace...

    Refresh a 33k gunite pool

Plaster is 16yrs old (!) old and has been 'mottled' since I bought the house 12yrs ago. I've taken extremely good care of the pool so it's in great shape other than the mottling. old pic, but looks the same. Ignore the debris:) here is a quote from a well regarded local company Honestly was...

Getting rid of Phosphates cured my 5yr standoff with black algae

UPDATE so the black spots came back. just a few, maybe 10-20% of what it was. This is with FC still at 10! Tested for Phos and sure enough, it's back up to maybe 250. hmmm, not sure where it's coming from. Pool is heavily used, I guess people may be the source. Will dose it again with the...

Getting rid of Phosphates cured my 5yr standoff with black algae

the super-slam did NOT fix my issue, it came right back. getting rid of the phosphates did it how so? genuinely curious. I could see it bleaching color out of a fiberglass or liner pool, but gunite?

Getting rid of Phosphates cured my 5yr standoff with black algae

Bible truth. I had previously done a SLAM at 35ish which had no effect. Did some reading on the nasty black stuff and decided to go bananas. Threw out all our towels, toys, bathing suits, replaced the tools, nuked the pool filter & cleaner in 200ppm trash can for a week....

Getting rid of Phosphates cured my 5yr standoff with black algae

I'll keep it at around 10, which seems a bit high but the pool gets used a LOT and I never want to have issues.

Getting rid of Phosphates cured my 5yr standoff with black algae

Wanted to share I documented my issue here: https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/very-sad-return-of-black-algae-after-slam.161684/ Small specs of black algae on the plaster and grout. Pool had been SLAMMED to 100ppm for 20 days, FC kept elevated etc. Pool always passed the OCLT and CC always...

VERY SAD: Return of Black Algae after SLAM

hmmm never heard that before I have been running for years based on this Pool School - Water Balance for SWGs so I figured 10ppm was at least 30% elevated I'll bump it to 16ppm tonight

    Slam bleach or chlorine?

I just went through this, SLAM'd my big pool to 100ppm. that was a lot of chlorine... I ended up using 10% chlorine jugs from Lowe's. It was slightly more expensive than bleach, however, Lowe's had the large quantities easily available in cases. The stock of bleach @ local grocery stores is...

VERY SAD: Return of Black Algae after SLAM

The Setup: SWG Gunite pool, plaster is 13yrs old, well cared for. But some areas of degrading tile grout esp around skimmers. Typical reading before SLAM (I kept it pretty consistent): FC 5 CC 0 pH 7.7 TA 70 ch 400 CYA 80 Salt 3000 Daily sweeping/skimming. I do 100% of the maintenance and use...
