Right. People typically use the granulated version when the problem is more widespread and they don't feel like holding a puck on every spot. Lazy way out.

Over reliance on trichlor and dichlor isn't the problem...it's a salt pool as I stated. Unless the tech was lying about results I assume it was tested correctly although I have no way of knowing for sure. The CYA was tested at 50 1 month prior. Oh actually usually ran high being a salt pool.

Why does adding bleach or fresh water cause alkalinity to go UP? I thought that hypochlorous acid, produced by adding sodium hypochlorite, pretty much cancelled out the high pH of the sodium hypochlorite? Isn't it pretty much a pH neutral event? Also, adding fresh water only raises alkalinity...

SLAM. FC probably dropped below minimum target temporarily at some point.

Did you lower your pH? I see that it was at 8 previously. It is important to lower it to the recommended level of 7.2 during the SLAM process.

You won't need to add liquid chlorine daily, depending on how much you add at a time, when you aren't SLAMing the pool. As long as you maintain the proper CYA level you can use pucks when you go away still. Using pucks is only frowned upon because they add CYA to the water and having too much...

Is it possible you have a leak by any chance? Your other parameters are pretty low as well...apart from salt and pH. Calcium doesn't really matter though with vinyl.
