Hi & question re slamming pool

Hi all, my pool seems to be consistently meeting all the criteria for the OCLT test so I'm planning to let the FC drift back down. I'll post at the bottom a picture of some pretty clear water. Ironically, just as the water really cleared the last of the summer heat seemed to go, so we are in...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Hi, thanks for the reminder about backwashing - I do need to do one! The water is clearer and clearer, as you can hopefully see from the picture below that I took this morning :) The difference from before is certainly amazing! From my testing dates it has been 16 days. I also did a check...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Hi, sorry I've been so quiet. I had to go away for work again and leave the SLAM of my neighbour. So I haven't been able to take photos along the way but he seems to have been doing a good job because the water is looking heaps better - it is blue and visibility is much better, although there is...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Thanks guys - I think I'll really need the encouragement soon :) But at the moment it feels like progress. The pool seemed just a bit clearer today, although I'm not sure that my photo captures it that well. I don't have any steps in the pool at the moment so the only thing to look out for is...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Yes I will. I know that by experience this year. Before discovering the SLAM approach I have already cycled through a number of green pools this year, no doubt because I thought I'd fixed it but there was still some algae left.. I'm will test the criteria tonight and tomorrow night and it would...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Hi, I'm seeing some improvement now - the water is definitely lighter in colour but still has a green tinge to it. I'm keeping the FC up so hopefully that will disappear soon.

Hi & question re slamming pool

Thanks guys, I'm pretty happy to focus on the algae for the moment and will get your advice once that's under control. I don't love going to the pool shop! The water might have been a bit lighter this afternoon so I will keep the faith and keep going. I will let you know when it changes.

Hi & question re slamming pool

There is a pool shop that I haver had water tested at, but I've never noticed or checked whether they test for metals. Do you think one dose of algicide in December could do that? I could get the water checked!

Hi & question re slamming pool

I have once earlier this year, at least I think it was copper based. Also in the past I have used a phosphorus reducer sold to me by a pool shop. I actually like the philosophy of not putting anything in that you don't need to, but had a bottle and thought I'd see how it worked - that was around...

Hi & question re slamming pool

He is a good neighbour but he's not going to get a swim yet because I back at home but the pool is still green (I'll attach a photo). A couple of time over the last couple of days the Fc level has got down quite significantly during the middle of the day 13.5 and 17.5, which is a bit lower than...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Thank you all I will keep going. the difficult bit is that i have to go away for 2 nights so I have a neighbour lined up to do it by phone. I will come back with a photo and let you know how it is going when i get back. Fingers crossed it will be fine with me away. Thanks for all the...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Hi, I am brushing but I don't think I'm near the end yet - the pool is pretty green. I have attached a photo. Last night the FC was 23.5 and CC 1, so I added about 180mm of chlorine This morning FC was 21.5 and CC .5, so I have added 650 mm of chlorine

Hi & question re slamming pool

Hi Jezza, actually I'm not sure of the exact number this morning because I tested the water at about 8am and it was 24 (down from 25.5 last night) but I then added some chlorine. I tested it mid-day but I forgot to write the figure down and it was was still 25.5 this afternoon. I will start...

Hi & question re slamming pool

My impression is that the FC should go down significantly during SLAM. I've checked the pool around midday and just now (5:30 pm) and neither time has FC dropped that much. This morning I put it a bit over the shock level - about 26 I think and it is still at shock level now. Is this strange or...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Okay, I thought I had got that wrong. I couldn't see any other bleach at bunnings but will have a look in the pool section again this afternoon for the right stuff. I did get the pool up to 24 FC but it was with the cal hypo. Oh and thanks for letting me know that we can swim when the FC is...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Thanks Texas, I've been working up to it for a few weeks and even before this outbreak have been reading this website with is an amazing source of information. I did find the chlorine bleach concentrate at Bunnings but wasn't sure yesterday whether I was calculating the strength accurately. The...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Thankyou, I'm overwhelmed with all the really practical help. I have added the acid, and some concentrated chlorine bleach (45gm/l), and have the filter running. I will start checking the Chlorine regularly and will clean the pool a bit later. I have also order a load more reagents from...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Hey thank you everyone, I'm off to get bleach and acid. that is a bummer about needing more reagents. I had the Taylor's kit sent through amazon, which was easy but it would be good to fine a local source to postage - thanks for the link Jezza i didn't find this. I assume you are saying that I...

Hi & question re slamming pool

Hi, first of all this is a great site, I've been reading it for a few weeks and there is so much great information. Thank you to everyone. I have an above ground pool that has a SWG. I've had it a couple of year but just now am really trying to understand it. I've had a very ordinary summer...
