    Lifespan of our vinyl liner?

Thanks @JoyfulNoise! And @wireform, thanks for the bead lock suggestion. Will save that for our new install for sure!

    Lifespan of our vinyl liner?

Thanks @wireform - that's helpful perspective. The part that's out of track isn't new - probably at least 2 -3 years old, and I've not been able to get it to stay in at any point. Leaning toward spring (or whenever) 2025 at this point.

    Lifespan of our vinyl liner?

We built our in-ground 29K gallon vinyl liner pool in spring of 2009 - so it is now over 15 years old. The original dark blue is now pretty faded, but other than a very short (maybe 8" section) where the liner has pulled slightly from the coping, it is functional and seems leak-free. Based...

Aluminum sling chairs - revive or replace?

Thanks for the reply and the pics - looks like the project turned out really well! I'll definitely do some googling. There is a sandblast / powdercoat shop or two nearby that I can reach out to.

Just a little nudge for visibility... ;)

Recurring "annoyance-level" algae... what am I doing wrong?

That's good advice... I would probably do better if I paid daily attention instead of weekly - allowing for finer tuning of things, and slower ramping up as you suggest.

Recurring "annoyance-level" algae... what am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, my CYA is a tad higher than I'd like. It was too low at the start of this season, Pool Math told me how much to add - but I must have mis-read something and overshot a bit. I also stopped using my solar cover years ago when the third one finally disintegrated. It...

Recurring "annoyance-level" algae... what am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the reply... Your points are good! Somehow in my mind I was thinking my FC was high-ish - shows I shouldn't trust my memory. Definitely could be some algae lurking - it is almost impossible to get the ladder steps totally brushed off. I've always opened just with the SWCG - I only...

Recurring "annoyance-level" algae... what am I doing wrong?

Longtime TFP follower here... Pool particulars in the signature. For the past couple (maybe three) seasons I've had minor-ish pesky green algae. Pool opens great in mid April - crystal clear. SWG is consistently doing its job - FC is currently around 7, so a bit high perhaps for a SWG pool...

Aluminum sling chairs - revive or replace?

We have a set of 6 sling chairs & two chaises that are 15 years old. The slings are starting to fall apart and the chair finishes are faded. In a couple of cases the finishes are actually coming off. That said, the aluminum is in fine shape overall, and we still like them. These are Garden...

    Couple of AA treatment questions

Thanks for the input! Just to be safe I went ahead and ordered the AA from Guardian, one of the suppliers recommended on here. Price looks to be pretty close to the Amazon stuff I linked anyway. I decided I'd better keep the wheels in motion as I usually close the pool in mid-October and I...

    Couple of AA treatment questions

Over the past couple of seasons, I've noticed a gradual discoloration on our white fiberglass steps (pool is about 14 years old). It is very mild yellow/tan - definitely nowhere near as bad as some of the pics others have posted on here. Last season I tested it with vitamin C and it whitened...

    AutoPilot Tri Sensor Replacement

Thanks Allen! I didn't come up with any good suggestions for removal, so I ended up ordering a combo kit of the sensor and the section of plumbing that it plugs into. It wasn't really that much more expensive than just the sensor alone, and will hopefully let me get things back up and running...

    Opinions, regrets?

Absolutely love the SWG - I wouldn't go back. One thing I've discovered, though, is that the mild salt exposure has gradually eaten away the ladder & handrail sockets in our concrete deck. So I'm eventually going to have to replace them somehow. But that's it. I spend very little time on...

    AutoPilot Tri Sensor Replacement

So we have an older AutoPilot DIG-220 that has started with the "Purifier Off Check Flow!" warning. There is plenty of flow, so I am figuring the tri sensor has gone on permanent vacation. I think I replaced it once before due to salt reading problems. Anyway, before I ordered a new sensor, I...

    In-ground fiberglass steps turning yellowish

Just reporting back here... Finally got some vitamin C, crushed it in a fine bag I use for adding stabilizer, and put it on the step. Instant color change - pure white again. What's more, I found all I needed to do was swipe the bag along the steps & risers and it would pretty much...

    Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

That's great - for me I need to detangle after every two runs, and it usually takes at least two to get the pool somewhat clean. If I don't detangle, it won't reach the far end, which it already does a bad job getting anyway. Not the end of the world but still annoying.

    Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

I will just weigh in with my swivel opinion - great idea, lousy in practice. My Dolphin Active 20's cable gets all twisted up after just one run session. Swivel does nothing. I think it is just too stiff. It is really disappointing as that was a key feature I was looking for when replacing...

    In-ground fiberglass steps turning yellowish

I'll get some and try that. If the test shows a difference, what's the next step? (pun sorta intended)

    In-ground fiberglass steps turning yellowish

We have an in-ground vinyl liner pool with white molded steps that I believe are fiberglass. The pool is now 13 years old and I've been noticing that the steps are yellowish below the waterline. They are still white above the waterline. The pool was regular chlorine for the first two or three...

    Which solar water heater?

11 years ago I installed two Fafco Solar Bear panels on the ground near our pool. Panels are 4' x 20' and I used a Goldline controller to route water to them when appropriate. Overall the setup has worked well. One or two years I opened the pool to find a leak or two in the panels, but you...

Autopilot Pool Pilot wonky salt readings

Quick update: Bought a new tri sensor. Solved the issue, and am now able to calibrate the salt reading to match my test kit results.

Autopilot Pool Pilot wonky salt readings

Thanks, but unfortunately I already did the backwash and am mostly through the topping up. Didn't know those would be important. Could you tell me a bit more?

Autopilot Pool Pilot wonky salt readings

Just a quick update... I pulled the Tri-Sensor. The instructions tell you to look for deposits on the salt sensor blades but they looked fine to my eye - just a uniform dark color. Reinstalled and let the pump run a while. Pool Pilot showed 3000 ppm, Taylor indicated 5200 (we've had some...

    Should I add a SWG??

I think you've probably already decided to go SWG, but let me just add my thumbs up. 9 years with ours and only this season have I begun to possibly have a sensor issue. It was hands down the best investment I made in our pool (robot cleaner is #2). Once it is up and running in the spring I...
