    Move filter away from pump?

Thought I'd ask here before I do something regrettable. A few years ago I turned a nasty pool shed into a nice, usable pool house. I custom built a "love seat" over the pump, but space was limited by the filter housing. There are 12' pipes running behind the pool house bathroom to the heater...

    Nerd alert

Anyone else get way too excited when their pool math app looks like this? The pool is not only clear, but has a sparkle to it. Converting to swg last year was the right decision. Although, it is a bit chilly.

    Borates Spike?

Yesterday in Pittsburgh we had some extremely heavy rain and storms. My swg pool is a disaster this morning, with a lot of leaves and sticks. I had to drain some water out because the rain filled the pool to the coping (probably about 4"). This morning, ph is 7.8, salt level dropped 200 ppm...

    Paint chipping from robot?

I have an old Dolphin Atlantis. I also have a pool with fiberglass walls and a concrete bottom. I painted the bottom with epoxy paint about 3 seasons ago. Last year, I hardly used the robotic cleaner at all, and the paint looked fantastic. This year, I've had the robot in all season, and the...

Anyone else's spouse think they are a pool nerd?

So, my new "Circupool RJ30+ salt water chlorine gen-er-ray-tor"(said in a marvin the martian voice) arrived today. I was very excited to see the UPS man driver it. When i brought it in and immediately opened the box, explaining the parts to my wife and how it works, she said, "oh my god...

    Liquid Chlorine Shortage in Pittsburgh

Apparently, TFP has caught on in Pittsburgh. There's plenty of tablets to be had, but no liquid chlorine. I had to resort to using Giant Eagle 7.13% bleach to get through this weekend. Got me thinking of a SWG conversion. Seems easy enough.

How many SLAM's a season do you do?

Does anyone else have to perform multiple SLAM's a season? It seems like I am constantly slamming my pool. If I let the chlorine drop below recommended even for a day, I seem to get a cloudy pool. I have scrubbed everything down, tried to find the hiding places, and even got new filter...

SLAMMING, MA, and verifying CYA levels

    1) Verifying CYA: I recently found a CYA chart here that shows how much FC is lost in full sun given various CYA levels. I know that testing CYA is a bit of an art, so I was able to verify my CYA reading with the chart. I read 30 for CYA, and the FC loss during the sunny, clear day last week...

Scotch brite pad on a pole?

I have a pool that has an epoxy painted, plaster bottom and fiberglass walls. It's also a 30 year old pool, so I am certain the gelcoat on the fiberglass has seen better days. Nylon brushes don't seem to touch the staining and general dirtiness of the surfaces. I have found that Scotch Brite...

    Opening Lessons Learned from Closing

I just opened my pool and learned a few things about closing I'd like to share. I closed early October, when the leaves were really falling. It was a battle to keep the pool leaf free, but I managed to keep the pool pristine. Just as I was pulling the solid safety cover on, a gust of wind blew...

    Solid main drain cover?

Does anyone have a solid maindrain cover for a sealed off maindrain, or have fabricated one? I haven't found one on the googles, yet. When my pool was built the main drain was purposely capped off from the outside. However, the installer still put on a normal maindrain cover. Debris and dirt...

    CYA measurement

I purchased the 50ppm cya standard from tftest. When I mix the standard with the new 0013 I also purchased, as directed, I can still see the dot when measuring at waist level.

    2019 DIY pool renovation

I moved into this house in 2018, and renovated the pool in April 2019. The person who lived here before stated that the pool light never worked, despite 5 electricians looking at it. The pool was installed in 1987. Whoever installed the light nicked the cord, so the hot wire was exposed and...

    SLAMming a clear pool

This thread is my SLAM thread. This is my first SLAM. Prior to this, I drained 45% of my water to get my cya to 50. My pool was crystal clear to start, but I decided to SLAM because I was at such a high CYA for so long, another thread said that I was on the verge of an algae bloom because my...

    Chlorine demand

I have what's called a "Family Fun" pool, meaning it has a plaster bottom (enamel paint) with fiberglass walls. It holds 11,000 gallons. It's crystal clear, no odor, and no signs of trouble. The issue I am having is that it is eating a gallon of chlorine a day. I was using an auto chlorinator...

Is high TA a bad thing if you don't have issues

My TA is currently 210. It's been high for quite some time. I don't have any issues with scaling or anything, and my water is crystal clear. My pH is good, and everything seems normal. I've been trying to lower my TA using pH down and aeration. Question is, if I'm not having issues usually...
