    Anchor replacement

I pulled out 4 anchors that had seized. 1. How should I install the new anchors into the holes in the concrete? I want it to be secure, but not so permanent that I cannot remove it if it seizes again. Would hot glue work? 2. Is there a style of anchors I should buy that is more reliable and...

    hot weather causing shut down?

Pump has been working fine and only a couple of years old, but this evening I went swimming and noticed it was not on despite the timer settings. I touched it and it was very hot. Flipping the power switch did nothing. I tried to cool the pump down by pouring some water on it and heard a click...

    leak identification and solution

We suspected a leak from having to add water more often, but now I'm fairly certain of it. The June->July bill went from 10 CCF last year to 20 CCF this year. Our often suspected spot is the skimmer, so I turned off the pump and dropped some egg-coloring solution into it (these are the tablets...

2023 pool season chlorine supply: should I buy now or wait until the summer?

Cheapest I've seen it is 200# of cal hypo tabs for $750. What are the predictions for the 2023 summer? Will it skyrocket during the summer months or will the prices ease a bit with BioLab's reopening? Trying to decide if I should buy now or wait.

downside to leaving pool without cover over winter?

Assuming we will drain the pool next April to clean it and then refill with fresh water, is there a downside to leaving the pool without cover? This is an inground concrete freshwater pool. My math shows a complete refill costs about $168 and with the rocketing prices of chlorine and the fact...

skyrocketing chlorine prices: buy now, buy later, or buy equipment?

I was hoping for Cal Hypo prices to go down, but it looks like high prices are here to stay. Almost 3x as expensive as it was just 2 years ago. Should I: Buy the cal hypo now? Wait until May and get it then hoping price will go down? Get a chlorine generator? ?? something else ??

    SP2807X10 impeller ring?

Was replacing the burned out motor on my SP2807X10, but it appears as though the rebuild kit that came with the motor is missing an impeller kit, and one apparently was not installed on the original pump assembly (pump was originally purchased along with the basket assembly). Do I need it? If...

replacing motor on pump housing - impeller seal (the one with the spring) separated from metal plate and plate is now stuck on shaft

How do I remove it without damaging the shaft? Finally got it off with a vice. Loosened it, then used a plastic pry tool to get it up the rest of the way.

    generic pump very weak?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/353358980460 Got this and this is its first season. It's a higher HP rating than the old Hayward unit I had. Initially it seemed quite powerful and when we replaced the water at the start of the year, pulled all of the water out. Now when it's filtering the water, I can...

Did I do enough to prevent ice from destroying my equipment?

    1. Took out two plugs from the pump. 2. Unscrewed and removed the cap at the bottom of the sand filter. Multiport valve is set on drain. Not sure if anything needs to be done to this part to prevent any pockets of water from developing in the internal compartments and blowing the thing up. Did...

    pump nearing end of life

So a couple of days ago we noticed the pump not always starting with the timer and making a long whirring noise before starting. If I remember correctly, this is how the previous pump started failing. Should I just shut off the timer and keep the pump running until the season ends? Just trying...

water became cloudy as soon as I added cal hypo

So initially this was a new fill, so I started maintaining it with trichlor tabs. Everything was fine at first. Water all clear. Then, when I saw CYA reached the needed levels of 40-45, I switched to cal hypo to avoid going into CYA runaway. Pretty much the next day after application, the water...

easy/quick test for FC and more "objective" test for CYA?

I have the test kit below in my sig, but I was wondering if there was a faster way of testing FC if I want to do it more often. Like maybe some sort of an electronic measuring device. Also, re: CYA, it seems a bit too subjective for me and I was wondering if there was something more objective.

Will trichlor dust damage concrete pool paint?

What the title says. I use trichlor until my CYA gets to appropriate levels since it's cheaper per increase in FC than cal hypo. I grind up the tablets into dust with a sharp object and put it into the pool directly, with the rest (remaining "chunks") going into the skimmer with recirculate on.

    Can a skimmer leak?

We suspected a leak a few seasons back and also last season and at some point covered the inside of the cement portions of the skimmer in silicone caulk. Since the pool is currently empty/prefill I thought I'd scrape the old stuff, which was loose, off and reapply the caulk. Is this a likely...

    Wiring a timer

I want to install a timer for my pool. There is already a timer installed, but it appears as though it is broken. Getting ready for the pool season

So I got my kit ready (see signature) and will be installing a new valve this weekend onto the pool filter, as the old one was hopelessly broken last season. 1. What if the pool is not covered during the winter?

Our cover is irreparably damaged due to years of wear and tear and I'm just wondering what happens if the pool is not covered. We don't have kids and the property is fenced in. I was looking at some guides regarding damage the pool can get. There were mentions of twigs and debris falling in...

    Green pool despite chemicals

I have 30,000 gal pool that has turned green and cloudy (not see-through). I added 8 lbs (1 lb rated as good enough for 12,000 gal per instructions) of shock and the following day added some clarifying chemicals to it, but it is still cloudy 1 day later. Pool is in-ground with a sand filter...
