Experiences with Pentair CCP 520 Replacement from Allfilters.com for $160 ?

I just saw these. At $160 for a set of 4 vs $400-500 quoted by the local pool store for original pentair filters, I'm wondering, is it too good to be true? Are there differences in filters (e.g. too restrictive, not fine enough, won't last long) etc. that justify such a big price difference...

Small amount of pollen in salt cell - normal or bad filter?

It's pollen season in Houston and I was about to clean my system. The 4 cartridge filters are loaded in pollen. Surprisingly pressure still barely went up at 25gpm. I also noticed a few strings of oak pollen on the ic40 caught on the plates. Is that normal that some minor amounts will pass...

Explanation for previous high CYA loss found?

Hi all. The first 4 seasons of having a pool I experienced high CYA loss of about 10ppm per Month. I read a bunch of posts on it but never a solution. Well this year I decided to increase my chlorine target. I had always targeted 5 ppm for my SWG because I wanted as little chlorine as necessary...

Replacement Aerator - Brass instead of Plastic? Increase gpm?

One of my 3/4 inch plastic aerators - Pentair 8620150 - broke and instead of getting the exact same cheap plastic version, I was wondering if I should get this brass version. Any thoughts on whether brass could cause issues with my salt water pool? It wouldn't be submerged and and most of the...

Standing Water inside Pentair Actuator - replace with Tork?

My actuator was all of a sudden no longer working after 5 years. The motor was running endlessly but nothing turned and it sounded like the gears were slipping. So I opened it up and found about 1/2" of water inside the actuator, the gears rusted, the board corroded ... Any idea how so much...

IC40 - SWG reporting 0 % salt (approx. 7 out of 10 startups) and temp appears ok

Hi, I did an acid wash on my salt cell, exactly per the pentair manual with a 4:1 water:acid solution since i had a bit of scaling on the plates. After that, I now have the issue that the salt detection doesn't work maybe 7 out of 10 times. If I turn everything off, turn it back on, the salt...

PH test increases over 1 minute

I noticed today that my tf100 PH test increases quickly if I let it sit. I put the drops in and mix to an equal color and it shows 7.2 Then instead of dumping it out immediately I let it sit and 30 seconds later it was 7.8 and another 30 seconds later it was 8.2 Is this normal?

Chlorine loss 1-2 weeks after SLAM (twice in a row)

Hi all, About a month ago the water got a bit cloudy and I had OCLT of about 1ppm. The chlorine was below target level, so I decided to do a normal SLAM. Water was crystal clear already on the second day, OCLT showed 0 ppm loss. So I thought I was done. A few days later I did discover...

Effective Pool Cooling for Hot Climates

Living in Houston where my pool in August usually was 93-94F, I had tried all the aerating ideas from this pool cooling page and none yielded more than maybe 1F reduction. Cooling A Pool - Further Reading This year, because we wanted to reduce sun exposure for our baby in the pool, I bought 3...

PH rising by 0.2 per day up to 8.2

So our new PrimeraStone plaster pool was doing fine in the first couple of months (I had to but then they had to repolish some sections 1 month ago and ever since I have crazy PH rise as well as scaling issues on the re-polished plaster only (the rest of the pool is super smooth). Calcium Test all of a sudden starts purple - Light Scaling?

Hi! So our new WetEdge Primera Stone Spa had some initial issues and they came to repolish it with these diamond blades. It got repolished and I started testing water chemistry daily and added PH since it rose a bit quicker than usual. Below the results that haven't changed much: PH 7.6...

What is to blame for CC and cloudy water all of a sudden?

Hi, After the 28 day startup I had been able to keep the pool quite balanced. I went about 2 weeks without stabilizer (had it ordered online and waiting for it to arrive). The water was so crystal clear that with goggles i could see across the 37 foot pool as if there was no water in it. It...

Is my plumbing efficient? Let's compare Intelliflo VSF stats!

So I'm really impressed with my Intelliflo VSF pump. I run it 6 hours a day at 1600rpm which the pump tells me yields 25 gpm using 240 watts per hour. For my 14000 gallon pool that means I have a daily turnover rate of 0.64. For a full month this adds up to 42 kWh which costs me $4 per month...

Most efficient aerator pump and valve settings.

We just got a new pool and have aerators on a valve with an actuator that we use to cool down the pool (see pool pad diagram below) I noticed that with the 1600 rpm setting I have on the pump 24 hours a day (which puts out 25 gpm) when opening the aerators they only spray maybe 1 foot into the...

Hi! We are about to put in a new pool and while we like the overflow drain in case we have hard rains coming down, but for every day use we are concerned about losing a lot of water with daily swimming bouncing the water around. I just came across this device which for $22 seems like a good...
