    bizarre PH readings in fountain

I have begun testing my small fountain (100 gallons). I have been observing a strange phenomenon when testing PH. For example when I tested today after first putting in the reagent, I got a reading of 7.0, after 1 minute the reading was 7.4, then 7.6 after 2 minutes, and at 4 minutes, it was...

    New plaster and high CH

I had my pool re-plastered with PebbleFina Feb. 2018. After the plastering in Feb. I had a CH reading of 450 (TF100 kit). In March it went up to 475 and now in April it is 500. For completeness all the readings today are: FC=3.0 CC<.5 CH=500 TA=90 PH=7.6 CYA=35 salt=1260 borates=15 CSI=.13...

    PH target

Every weekend I do a full TF100 test on my pool water. Then I plug the numbers into PoolMath. I then adjust the PH number until a get a CSI of 0. I use the adjusted PH number as my target PH for that week. Is this a good way to do it?

base demand and acid demand tests

I have found an old taylor K-2005 test kit. In that kit are reagents for base demand and acid demand. Evidently these tests tell you how much acid or base to add to reach a given PH in your pool. I have never used these tests, I just guestimate the amount of acid or base to add, and then test...

    27 year old pebbletec

I have some severe cracking in my pool deck over the spillway from my spa to pool, I had a guy out today to give me an estimate on replacing the cracked deck (aggregate). He also looked at my pool and said that the pebbletec needs to be replaced, so he is going to give me an estimate on both...

Test results with TF-100 vs. ColorQ 7 Pro

I partially drained my pool in order to lower CYA and CH. After refilling and circulating I tested using both the TF-100 and the ColorQ 7 Pro and got the following: TF-100 ColorQ FC 10 6.59 TC 10 6.59 TA...

adding salt to a non-SWG pool

I have recently read about people adding salt to a non-SWG pool because they like the feel of the water. Does anyone know about this? And can it upset the balance of the pool?

    TF-100 test kit

I just received my TF-100 and performed my first tests this morning. It's a very nice kit overall. I just have a couple of minor issues. The 8 oz. bottle of R-0013 (CYA reagent) has one of those caps that you press on one side and it opens on the other side. That cap makes it difficult to...

draining pool to reduce CYA and CH

I have CYA of about 300 and CH of 600-700. I have bitten the bullet and am draining the pool. I will test with the TF-100 after refilling. I have 9 several gallons of 10% bleach on hand. And if the CYA needs raising a little can I throw in some trichlor pucks that I have on hand from pre-TFP?

    Rapidly increasing CH

In the past 3 days my CH level has gone from 600 to 660 to 730, and I have added nothing except bleach, However, I have been removing scale from the tile with a pumice stone, and the scale has been falling into the pool, could this have caused the increase in the CH level readings?

high cya, high FC, safe swimming levels

I have cya level of about 250, and I know I need to drain in order to lower that number, but until then I should maintain a minimum FC of .075 x 250 of 18-20. Is it safe to swim at these levels?

    cloudy FAS-DPD test

I have a Taylor K-1515-A FAS-DPD Chlorine Test. I just finished a test. I used a 10mL sample of pool water, I added 2 dippers of the DPD powder and swirled, and got a milky pink solution (not the CLEAR pink solution that I have seen on Youtube tests). I added the titrating reagent dropwise...

    Hello from Tucson, AZ

I recently decided to fire my pool guy and try to look after my pool by myself. I am looking forward to doing so with both excitement and trepidation!
