    Hayward GVA-24 - Actuator Failing?

Hey guys, woke up this morning to half my spa drained, lol. Anywho, went over and checked out my equipment and it looks like one of my actuated valves isn't all the way in the closed position. So, I swapped it from pool to spa mode for it to actuate and it closes all the way on the other end...

    Scale removal on Slide

Hi all, I maintain my pool throughout the year because I use my hot tub frequently. I guess I let my pH get a little high and have gotten some scale spots on my gunite slide. Any tips on removing this? Assuming muriatic acid and a scrub brush would be too aggressive on the slide finish. Thanks!

Umbrella Sleeve Cap - Seized close due to plaster

So, we went to use the umbrella sleeve for the first time on our sunshelf and I could not remove the cap. Tried using some pliers, a box cutter around the lip to cut-away some plaster that may have hardened in the threads with zero luck. Any suggestions for getting the cap off? Thanks in...

Quartzscape Plaster Issues - Ongoing with the GC

I've had my pool up and running since April of this year. Enjoyed it all summer long. In June, we started seeing these black spots randomly throughout the pool. NPT is the plaster manufacturer and they came out with my pool builder and stated it was metal stains embedded in the plaster due to...

Freezing Temps - What to do

I live in Katy, Tx. The forecasts are getting close to freezing at night so I’m wondering what I need to do in order to prep for freezing temperatures? I’ve been maintaining my pool the same way I did fit the summer (because we use the spa), so what measures should I take to ensure no burst...

Leaving for the weekend - best advice for pool maintenance

So we are leaving for a weekend, what is the best way to prep the pool to be "OK" for two days? Or should I just have someone come stay at my house to add chlorine / acid if necessary (chlorine absolutely necessary, maybe acid - new plaster - always rising pH) Thanks!

    K-2006 Test Kit - CYA

Man, when comparing the test kits on the Pool School page, it shows the Taylor K2006 having ~25 tests. I probably only get about 2 - 3 tests before I have to purchase more R-013 reagent. Am I missing something?

    Random dark spots in Plaster

Hey guys, had a question about these random dark spots showing up in my plaster. I've. Priced probably about 6 of them in my pool / hot tub. I've been having issues with high calcium levels (~500ppm) so wondering if it could be meta stains. Other water Params as of this morning (just had a...

Upcoming Pool Party - Best way to prepare and mitigate bather overload

So, my 5 year old son is having a pool party at the end of this month and we are expecting approximately 20 people (mostly kids plus some adults) so I'm wondering what the best way to prep the pool for the party. Do I go higher on FC prior to the party? I typically have a CYA of about 40 so I...

    High Calcium Hardness

Hey guys, I've been getting high CH readings for my pool and I'm not sure of the cause. Based on the pool place reading of 500ppm, pool math is telling me I need to drain and replace almost 50% of my water. Help? What could be causing this? My plaster is new (less than 3 months) but it seems...

    Recommendation for Replacement Cartridge Filters

Where do you guys purchase all of your replacement filter cartridges? I have a Hayward C5030 filter with the CX1280XRE filters. I wanted to have a standby set ready for a "hot swap" when one set needs to be cleaned. The cheapest I've seen them are on Amazon (the Hayward) brand. However...

    PHin

This showed up in my Facebook newsfeed today. Has anyone heard of it? What are your thoughts? Seems like a neat idea and low maintenance but I wonder how accurate it is or if it's just a gimmick? Smart Pool Monitoring System | Simplify Pool Care | pHin

    Hello, from Katy Texas

Hello, My wife and I are in the process of having our pool built. Stats are in my signature. I have a ton of questions, but I guess I'll wait until the pool is finished and we go through "pool school" with our contractor. We just recently finished the "Acid Start-up" and kicked the pump...
