    Help--I've got crabs!

@avspin - they do not really have a way out. I'm unsure if they want out. First one I got out ran right back in  So I put them in a 5 gallon bucket then dumped them in the ditch along the road. I may just be stuck with these mud bugs in the pool anytime I go in & needing to remove them. I...

    Help--I've got crabs!

@Leebo do you know who moved this thread? This is pool-related... and an ongoing problem (I have 7 more fiddler crabs today). Please move it back or to an appropriate pool-related thread. MOD note-this has been moved to a more pool related area.

Green algae. About to swap pump/filter... steps?

I figured I'd do a follow-up. We got it back and better than before! Kept it at SLAM levels for a day and a half after passing all 3 criteria, just to be certain. We've now swapped out the pool equipment and are loving the pool. Nevermind the dots in there.... pesky fiddler crabs. Pulled those...

    I Love TFP But...

We just converted a few days ago to SWCG. Turned it on at 50% and the next day it was clearly working... The FC when we turned it on was 6.5. The next day it was 8.5. So we've dialed it down to 35% and I'll go check in a minute where we are at.

    Help--I've got crabs!

Fiddler crabs... what did you think I meant!? This isn't WebMD... :ROFLMAO: Okay, now I've got your attention! We recently converted to salt water. Just turned on the SWCG yesterday after really dialing in the chemistry. Apparently, now all the fiddler crabs love the pool. We currently have 21...

Green algae. About to swap pump/filter... steps?

Hello, Below is my pool. Was beautiful about a week ago. Finally used the Taylor kit (K-2006-c) instead of the digital one (Safe dip 6 in 1). I plan to swap out the equipment this weekend, but think I should SLAM first. Is this order what you would recommend? Chemistry levels: CYA 100 FC 7.6...

Do I need a return valve?

Thank you both for your prompt replies! I'll go ahead and order 4 valves then. I've had the new equipment about a month now--so it will be good to get it installed. Been distracted with tons of other projects around the house. But it's obvious the pool equipment is in dire need of replacement...

Do I need a return valve?

Hello, Before ordering valves, do I need a return valve? Not sure of the name of it, but after all the equipment (pump, filter, SWCG)... They're currently $80 at PoolSupplyWorld, so not exactly inexpensive. Also, does this layout look good? Thanks in advance!

    Double-check me before I order new pump/filter?

Filter and pump showed up today via FedEx... while we were all poolside 👍 I was grateful it came, and even early at that. Now just waiting on the SWCG.

    Hello from Charleston, SC

That's a great idea to extend the pad. Also want to enclose the area a bit afterwards to help protect the equipment from the sun. Suction: Yes, the suction lines are 2 skimmers and a main drain. Return: You are correct, one line is a drain line that runs out into the grass about 6'

    Hello from Charleston, SC

Thank you both, @cowboycasey & @HermanTX, for the responses! Attached is a picture of the current setup (pad is 36"x32"). Thank you @HermanTX for the suggestion to download the manuals. I will do that and study them prior to their arrival, so I can have an installation plan upon their arrival...

    Double-check me before I order new pump/filter?

Sorry to about that backorder situation and price gouging! I just checked on the pump/filter, and it says preparing to ship. I ordered from InTheSwim.com For the SWG I ordered from DiscountSaltPool.com I need to check the status of that order too. Hopefully I do not experience delays, but am...

    Double-check me before I order new pump/filter?

Excellent - will do! Thanks for the suggestion on the pool test kit! I'll probably throw the tabs on Craigslist for next to nothing to recoup some of these costs... Want to keep the wife happy, as the one condition she had for us moving to the sticks was she had to have a pool. Done. Regarding...

    Double-check me before I order new pump/filter?

Thank you both for the responses! I think a VS pump is wise, considering the energy cost of running that single speed pump. I guess I need to figure out if I should get a cartridge filter now or wait. Would you recommend building an enclosure (small pump house) over the equipment to keep it...

    Double-check me before I order new pump/filter?

Hello all! We just purchased a house with a 32,000 gallon in-ground plaster pool and am new to pools. Had a pool company come out for pre-purchase inspections. Pool's in good shape, but equipment is old. I am sure after reading a bit on TFP their recommendations are less than optimal (recommend...
