Opened pool late ton of algae

shirt story, was on vacation, so did t open pool until yesterday. black green. my heart sank. It's my 3rd year of new plaster. So I got it all raked out, skimmed and vacuumed. SLAM levels of chlorine and pool is going from black to now blue in about 48 hours. BUT my seat, steps and walls are...

Advice - to open or not to open?

Hi - seems like I won't be getting much use of my pool in June or July and will have limited ability to check on it daily. So I'm wondering what I should do. Essentially, I'd like to minimize my startup time/effort come August when its probably very hot out. Should I pull off the cover in...

Is this just in my head? sump pump staining plaster?

hi... so I have this aversion to leaving my sump pump in the pool sitting on the plaster. I think it might rust or stain or something. Is this nuts? should I just leave it in under the cover, with the hose and power plug sticking out?

Closing pool - questions about chemicals

interesting thought about leaving/getting the plumbing going when the cover is on. I am around less now that school has restarted so pool wouldn't get used anyhow. I might dump in my leftover liquid chlorine and circulate a little with my sump pump and a hose... beyond that, I suppose I'm good...

My plan for next year, the pool being algae free

I had the same problem year 1... now I rely on a combination. mainly used liquid chlorine, it's easy to use. sometimes I throw in a few pucks, and once in awhile I'll mix a few buckets of some granular shock. This way, my CYA doesn't go too high.

Closing pool - questions about chemicals

thanks. I guess the water will cool quickly now that at night it's into the 50s. The cover is quite dark and my chlorine levels were high the day I closed it, but not at shock levels. I guess i shall see come next year. even though my pump is off and my cover is on, do you think it's worthwhile...

Closing pool - questions about chemicals

oh... I typically close it early because of the leaves and busy with school, etc. I open late like almost July... my pool water was heated too, so it's about 80 degrees. Do you think I am going to have a problem.

pool closed - can I keep chemicals in shed

good point. google says calcium chloride is hygroscopic, it absorbs moisture from the air. I know my DE is fine, I think the CYA is fine too. thanks.

pool closed - can I keep chemicals in shed

I just closed my pool. great season and closing went well. I have a large property, so wondering what chemicals do I need to store inside vs those I can leave in shed. I think I should leave the liquid chemicals in my basement, algaecide, super blue, chlorine (yes I know it loses strength)...

Closing pool - questions about chemicals

Hi. This is my 4th year closing the pool. The actual process of closing the pool went smoothly. Pool water was clean and water balance was good. My question is this, and I hope this is not a contentious subject. What's the point of winterizing chemicals? shocking the pool, the chlorine will...

Is Spa bulb different from other pool bulbs

I see I can also get a medium blue glass lens. might make the spa look like a different blue than my diamond Brite pool though. hmmm

Is Spa bulb different from other pool bulbs

I found a pool vendor with an Anthony parts diagram, they say to use the br40fl300 bulb, that's 300W. from experience, do you all think that will still be too bright? thanks

Is Spa bulb different from other pool bulbs

Is my R40 500w bulb too strong. long story short, pool electrician came - the dummy changes the 2 pool lights and didn't even look to see if there was a light in the spa. there was, so that bulb was dead and not fixed. luckily I took pics of the bulbs he used and the fixture housing. so I...

    Calcium chloride at Home Depot

I added the Calcium Chloride, this stuff was great. Dissolved very easily. Small sized particles. Very clean. Happy to have a good local source. One bag will last me a long time!!! Man I hardly spent anything on chemicals this year, used what I had. I can't even imagine what a pool company would...

should I buy cal hypo 68%, if cheaper than 73%

so. am I thinking logically here. my choice brand of cal hypo shock 68% is 25 percent cheaper than the 73%. seems like I'm better off buying the lower strength since the price is so much lower. I can just add a little more if needed based on pool math calculator.

    Calcium chloride at Home Depot

thanks. I was just asking about what product to use, not how much to add. my fill water is very hard, but I also don't require much filling, usually draining water from rain. I finally found on the product sheet of that brand, that this is 100 percent calcium chloride, not a blend. I'll give it...

    Calcium chloride at Home Depot

thanks. I decided to go with this one from a local Ace Hardware. they typically have good products there, it was a little more expensive than home depot. https://safestepmelters.com/product/safe-step%C2%AE-7300-calcium-chloride

    Calcium chloride at Home Depot

I did search and read some posts, but I guess no DIY pool guy like me wants to mess up their pool! what is current thought about buying a 50lb bag of calcium chloride deicer at home depot. it's $20 and I need about 40lbs. My CH is low and I prefer liquid bleach so not adding much calcium via...

Raypak Heater blew it's thermal fuse

It's working!!! I went out to examine the unit again, yes there is a little soot beneath the burners, but not a ton. It seems the burners are held on with 2 bolts on each side and then kept in place by the gas line connection. After some thinking, I decided I'm definitely not going to mess with...
