1972 Inground Gunite Pool Remodel (Pictures)

I thought that stone looked familiar. I did my pool in Tennessee Crab Orchard a few years ago with an overhanging coping like yours. I sealed it with Dupont StoneTech Professional Enhancer Pro Sealer and so far it has held up great. Here is a link for my pool that has some pictures of the the...

    New build in South Texas

The scarecrow sprinkler heads do work very well although I tended to get zapped by mine too often for enjoyment. On a similar note to your wolf, I have a good sized Koi pond. Blue herons are a huge problem with koi ponds and I have a fairly large one that likes to visit in the spring and fall. I...

    1963 pool resurection

Have you had any feedback on how to patch the holes? I am not a pool builder but I did install my own pool and have done a lot of cement work. IMO: Keep the spa separate. I think think that separate hot tubs are so much more useful, cost effective and easy to maintain. And it would greatly...

Ugly Duckling Pool Reno in Maine

To get rid of ants you need to know what kind they are. But bait is always better than spraying poison. Ants will bring bait back to the colony thus killing the queen and the worker ants who never leave the nest. Spraying can actually make the infestation worse as the ants survival instinct will...

Here's a fun problem, bet you haven't seen this before

I doubt you have any legal recourse and I would forget contacting the original builder because from looking at your pictures, they appear somewhat incompetent. The wall was not built correctly and I cannot imagine piling dirt from a pool onsite rather than removing it. I would guess the sinkhole...

    Liquidator overfilling

I have found on mine that if you invert a bleach bottle into the funnel it will only drain into the LQ as the level goes down enough to accommodate it. So I refill mine thusly.

I was pretty happy that my pool came with water. :)

    OKC renovation - forty-year facelift

If I had my druthers I would go with the smaller grout lines. Most grout specifications mention they only support grout lines of up to a certain width. Going beyond that increase the risk of cracks in the grout.

    Hello from Curacao

I found my install to be pretty straightforward. Dig a hole, level it out, drop in pool, plumb, backfill very carefully. I used sand backfill but have heard that gravel is virtually foolproof. If IGUI is offering all of that stuff with the shell then there is a cost associated with it. Perhaps...

    Hello from Curacao

I checked out IGUI and I see what you mean: that is a very large lip on the pool. It would however seem to make for a pretty strong shell since most of the strength is in the lip of the pool shell. They do have a few examples of cantilever installs of the IGUI so it is doable but you would need...

    Empty pools & hydrostatic pressure?

If the hole is in the shallow end you could probably to drain it down to that level for the repair and leave the rest of the water in the deeper area to alleviate the popup issues. Most fiberglass pools are not that deep (Mine is 5'6") so chances if yours is of a similar depth you are not very...

    Installed liquidator...several issues/questions.

You are fine with the water in the LQ draining down to the lever of the floats when it is off. I have run mine without check valves for quite a few years with no issue.

    OKC renovation - forty-year facelift

Re: Oklahoma City area PB recs and can this even be done? I have to say I like the pool. I would think that modifying the shape to remove the T would be cost prohibitive. There would be a lot of work involved almost akin to building a new pool. The biggest question in my mind is the structural...

    New fiberglass pool

Got any pics? Has it been fully backfilled and plumbed yet? If not I would definitely have it yanked out and have the base redone.

    Liquidator Install Help

I have the same. My pool is smallish (6000gal) so I use a very low flow and there is a decent amount of air in there whenever it is running. I tried to secure all of the possible air leak areas to fix it but could never eliminate it. Finally gave up. It doesn't seem to affect anything.

    Liquidator Install Help

In regards to the valve, before dropping $40.00 on a new valve I would try the one that comes with it. I have been using an LQ for probably 5 years now at there just isn't a lot of need for minute tweaking of the flow IMO.

DIY IG rehab, cement walls, vinyl liner - Pool Filled!!

Re: DIY inground rehab, vinyl liner over poured cement walls If your concerned about getting a good bond on the pavers. it can't hurt to pick up a gallon of concrete bonding agent at H.D. It is approx $11.00 gallon and you mix it with water. You paint it onto the surface and pavers right before...

    Excellent Customer service from HASA

I am a huge supporter of the LQ. I have been using one for going on six years now. The only negative feedback I ever really see about it is the "white stuff" that seems to develop in the tubing of some installs. I don't think anyone has ever definitively determined what causes it but it degrades...

    Air bubbles inside liquidator

To bypass you could: Keep LQ hooked up but close off the LQ with the flow regulator turn all the way off. bypass LQ by hooking a tube from the outflow directly into the inflow bypass LQ by hooking a tube from the outflow directly into the inflow with the flow regulator valve in the loop and...

    Liquidator Check Valves...what's the point?

The check valves really only critical if your LQ is below pool water level. If it is and you do not have check valves then when the pump is off the pool could drain through the LQ. I removed all of my check valves years ago and have had no issues at all. You will get better flow without them as well

    New guy looking at liquidator!

For the water outflow, you can almost certainly use the pump drain plug. You need to purchases an adapter from H.D. to do so. For the inflow side the logical place to put it would be on the temporary pipe run going back to the pool a few inches past the 90. That is flex PVC though and I have...

    What to do

I will dive in with a recommendation but I come at this without any professional experience in this type of work, just a hard core DIYer. I see you are asking about replacing the skimmer in another post. I would worry about that first. After that is done, I would drill down along both edges of...

    Waterproofing Concrete Bowls

I have used Drylok many times. Works great. Finishes somewhat rough but nice an clean (and white). You can even paint or mortar right over it. Not sure of the finish of your bowls but there is a good chance you could drylok them and then do a tinted mortar over it that matches the original look...

Update on DIY build in TN (More Pics/Questions)

Are you planning on an pressure side automatic pool cleaner like the Polaris 360? If so you would want a valve each of the returns so that you can reduce flow to each to push more through the cleaner.

    Tile install on fiberglass pool

In regards to other types of tile, the feedback that I had seen on that question is that if it is not designed for use in a pool then there is a decent chance that freezing and thawing could cause the tiles to break.
