Where do I add the salt?

65, It makes no difference.. But... you don't just dump it in and let it sit.. You must take a brush and move it around until it all 'melts' into the water. Thanks, Jim R.

Thinking about getting a new Pentair pump

S, In most cases it makes sense to have some kind of disconnect at the equipment pad.. Be it a breaker, disconnect, or automation panel. Thanks, Jim R.

Can my new Intelliflo3 with relay board power a heater?

S, You can run the heater two ways.. 1. Run all the AC for the heater through the relay card.. So, from the breaker, to the relay card, and then to the heater. 2. Run the 24 VAC from the heater's fireman's switch through the relay card and back to the heater. This low AC voltage keeps the...

Pentair CCP 520 filter not filtering

t, Sounds to me like you have algae.. If so, that is a chemical issue, and not a filter issue. Have you done an OCLT?? Thanks, Jim R.

S, Are we talking about a gas heater?? If so, then yes. Thanks, Jim R.

Pentair Intellicenter automation not transitioning between groups properly

BLPT, It appears that you only have one actuator??? Usually, to move from the pool mode to the spa mode it takes two actuators. The intake and Return actuators are fix to the Pool and Spa circuits. The A and B actuator ports can be assigned to a feature circuit. Thanks, Jim R.

Is my pump strong enough for my new pool?

N, Something else your can try... Look to see where your pool return "eyeballs" are located.. How may return eyeballs does your pool have??? Adjust the eyeballs so that they try to push the water in a circular pattern, kind of like a giant flushing toilet bowl, but obviously very very...

Is my pump strong enough for my new pool?

N, I never did see an answer to the following two questions... Look between the mouth of the skimmer and the skimmer basket and see if you have any weir doors.. They are like a small door laying on its side. They are anchored at the bottom and the top floats up and down with the water.. Please...

Latest on automated sensing options? (pH, FC/ORP, temp, etc?)

Guy, You can like whatever you want, but no automated system can take care of your pool as well as you can... If you follow the TFP pool care process, you can't use ORP, as you have to keep your CYA too low, for ORP to work, You can automate your pH, but to be honest, if you...

Is my pump strong enough for my new pool?

N, I suggest that you turn the pump on and see how things work. With the pump on, look at the things I asked you to look for and then get back with us.. Thanks, Jim R.

Is my pump strong enough for my new pool?

N, Shut off your main drain and just run off the two skimmers... Everything looks dead to me.. What position is the valve on top of your filter in?? If you move the valve from pool jets to waterfall, does the waterfall work well? (Don't leave it in waterfall, just want to see of the pump...

Is my pump strong enough for my new pool?

N, We also need to see the valves that send the water back to the pool.. Your skimmers do not appear to be working at all.. Is the pump running?? What speed is it running? Do you have water actually coming back out of the pool returns into your pool? Is is a strong flow or very weak...

    When to replace pumps?

Matt, Show us some pics of your equipment pad.. It may be that to install the two new pumps, they are going to have to replace valves, and do a lot of re-plumbing.. Here is where I buy my equipment... https://www.polytecpools.com/Hayward_c_32.html Thanks, Jim R.

Need Help with Pentair IC40 SWG

C, There is nothing 'wrong' with using a pool guy... but, I also think it is important for the home owner to understand how their pool works, so that they know when things don't look right.. Sorry to say, in some cases I doubt the home owner even knows that there is water in the pool...

C, Most pool guys do not use liquid chlorine.. I'm glad your guy does... :goodjob: Do you plan to continue using him or do you plan to maintain the pool yourself??? Maintaining a saltwater pools is so easy, even I can do it... Jim R.

Need Help with Pentair IC40 SWG

C, Just for reference... Until this year I owned three pools.. All three pools have 3 HP IntelliFlo pumps.. They have been running 24/7, mostly at 1200 rpm, for well over 12 years.. All three pumps operate today, just like the day I installed them.. I have had zero pump failures of any...

Need Help with Pentair IC40 SWG

C, The basic idea is that for the first week or two, you test the FC in your pool water every couple of days.. You can then get a feel for how much FC your pool is using and then adjust the output up or down as needed.. Once you get a feel for how things work you should not have to make more...

Need Help with Pentair IC40 SWG

C, It would not hurt anything to remove the flapper.. You absolutely need a check valve if you had a chlorine tab feeder.. Because when you shut off the pump, stuff that is still inside the tab feeder, will flow backwards into the heater.. Eating it as we talk.. A SWCG is either on or off...

Need Help with Pentair IC40 SWG

C, Your cell, when run 24 hours at 100% output will add about 11 ppm of FC (Chlorine) to your pool.. That is basically .45 ppm per hour at 100% output.. Most pools use 2 to 4 ppm of FC per day.. So let's use 3 ppm... To make 3 ppm of FC you will have to run the cell for at least 6.5 hours...

Need Help with Pentair IC40 SWG

C, You have a gas heater and a smaller filter, so my 'guess' is that you will have to run 1700 to 1800 rpm, to close your SWCG's flow switch.. Still not a lot of electricity.. Go into the pump and slowly increase the speed from 1500 up toward 1800 and see where the SWCG's flow switch turns...

Thinking about getting a new Pentair pump

@djdonte You forgot how quiet your pump is at 1200 rpm.. You should run your pump any way you want, but I suggest that your run it 24/7.. Your pump will thank you, and your pool will thank you... :) I find that I like making a little chlorine all the time, and skimming...

Need Help with Pentair IC40 SWG

Cali, Running your pump and not turning on the SWCG just does not make any sense!!! When you have a SWCG pool, the primary reason to run the pump is to make chlorine.. I suspect that you have a heater.. If so, you will have to run 1500 to 1800 rpm for there to be enough flow to turn on the...

Please tell me what vacuum I need.

M, This is absolutely true.. :goodjob: Skimmers work best when the water level is very low at the skimmer, the problem of course, is then you have to worry about the water level going too low.. Skimmers work worst when the water level is near the top of the skimmer's mouth.. So the...

Truly torn - SWG or Chlorine

P, I'm pretty sure that this is because they changed the way they calculate the HP of pumps.. The did not change the actual pump to increase its HP, they just determine the HP by a different method. So, in my "old person" mind, it is still a 1.5 HP pump.. It does not have an...

Please tell me what vacuum I need.

M, Your cleaner is a suction side cleaner and it does not need a booster pump. It sounds to me like your problem is how your pool guy is operating your pool, not the type of pool cleaner you have. Skimmers do not work well without a weir door.. Get the weir door replaced, ramp up the speed...
