Question about my apartment complex's pool freezing over

They have a key fob access system for the pool, for apartment complex residents (which is how I got in). I was just the only resident here crazy enough (or stupid enough, not sure which) to be at the pool on December 24th when it was about 25F outside with the wind blowing. :ROFLMAO:

Question about my apartment complex's pool freezing over

Sounds good, I won't break up any more of the ice. I broke up one small chunk just to see how thick it was. Yep, all of the equipment is in a special room, inaccessible to everyone except maintenance.

Question about my apartment complex's pool freezing over

To start: I used to own my own pool and used TFP's methods for keeping it in perfect condition (thanks!!), but that was before the divorce, and I no longer own a pool. Now I'm in an apartment. Anyway... What sort of damage might my apartment complex possibly have, since their pool...

New Raypak 5450 heat pump...worked for a day, now high pressure trip/lockout

Raypak sent out a tech (a local HVAC guy) and he said it was an issue with the high-pressure switch. Heater is now running perfectly.

New Raypak 5450 heat pump...worked for a day, now high pressure trip/lockout

Makes sense to me, on both counts. A natural gas heater would have been great. We have natural gas service to the house but the original homeowners didn't have a line trenched out to the pool (75-ft through a wooded area, and we don't know the exact locations of the electric and plumbing lines...

New Raypak 5450 heat pump...worked for a day, now high pressure trip/lockout

Nope, both are heat pumps. Easy swap, one-for-one. Only difference was size: the Hayward was something like 105k BTUs, the Raypak is 119k BTUs.

New Raypak 5450 heat pump...worked for a day, now high pressure trip/lockout

I'm not OP, but Raypak said they'll have someone at our house today. Guess we'll see what's going on. Didn't see any issues with the installation of the heater, aside from the lack of a bypass installed with the plumbing (it isn't necessary for our pump size and heater size, according to...

New Raypak 5450 heat pump...worked for a day, now high pressure trip/lockout

Was there any resolution to this? I have a brand-new (literally manufactured last month and installed a few days ago) Raypak R6450ti-E that is giving me this exact same error message. Looks like we'll be calling Raypak in the morning. Hopefully they can get us up and running quickly. We...

How long do chlorine tablets normally take to dissolve?

Forgive me TFP, for I have sinned...I bought some chlorine tablets for my pool. Really though: I needed some liquid bleach, my local Wal-Mart has been out of their Great Value Cleaning Bleach the past few times I've visited, they don't have the Pool Essentials Chlorinating Liquid...

Why would my heat pump keep tripping the circuit breaker?

Sad, but oh well, nothing I can do about it. Thankfully it's been pretty warm here recently and even without the heater our pool has gotten up to 80F. While my wife still considers this "cold" it is definitely better than it was a few weeks ago. We're considering buying a solar cover and...

Why would my heat pump keep tripping the circuit breaker?

To update this: I had a local HVAC company out to look at it. 0 pressure in the unit, totally empty of refrigerant. After they put gauges on it, some water sprayed out from the coils so it is totally dead. Oh well.

Why would my heat pump keep tripping the circuit breaker?

Hi all, I have a ~12ish year old Hayward HP21002 heat pump for my pool. 2nd owner, this will be my 3rd season with it. At the end of last season it started giving me an "LP" error, which can apparently be a number of issues -- low pressure switch replacement, circuit board replacement, leak...

My dogs decided to chew on some of my pool equipment. Suggestions on fixing/replacing?

Yep, one of them. Here's the other...this was taken back in January so they're both a little larger now. 70lbs each. Male is a German Shepherd & Coonhound mix (dad was GSD, mom was Black & Tan Coonhound), the female is a Black Lab. ~11-months old now. Aside from these chewing issues...

My dogs decided to chew on some of my pool equipment. Suggestions on fixing/replacing?

Ok I finally got around to replacing this plumbing. Here's a shot of the dry fit, before I glued everything together. Now I just need to SLAM. I ended up needing to rotate my filter 90-degrees and redoing some of the plumbing for the multi-port selector. The waste line goes down under ground...

My dogs decided to chew on some of my pool equipment. Suggestions on fixing/replacing?

Just ordered the Weld-On 724 glue, Weld-On P70 primer, and (2) unions to fit on my pump. Unfortunately they only had those (2) in stock so I'll have to grab some more when they're back in stock. Figures that Lowes and Home Depot don't carry the specific PVC glue and primer that Jandy...

My dogs decided to chew on some of my pool equipment. Suggestions on fixing/replacing?

Here's 2 more photos so you can see the layout. I have NO IDEA why whoever built this pool did such a tight and convoluted layout. Re-plumbing this entire thing will probably be a weekend project at some point. I read the post from jimmythegreek but can't quite picture it in my mind. MS...

My dogs decided to chew on some of my pool equipment. Suggestions on fixing/replacing?

Wow I hadn't checked this thread in a few days and I come back to some good responses, thanks everyone! I WAS able to replace the drain port in the sand filter by disconnecting the filter and tipping it over. This allowed easy access to the underside so I could replace that drain port...

My dogs decided to chew on some of my pool equipment. Suggestions on fixing/replacing?

New valves arrived today (Jandy NeverLube #4724, 2-way). Unfortunately I have some bad news: The pipes coming out of the ground are too close together to just plumb in the new valves. I'll have to cut the pipes off at the ground, extend them up a bit, and widen them from each other...so lots...

My dogs decided to chew on some of my pool equipment. Suggestions on fixing/replacing?

I deep cleaned this filter 2 seasons ago so I guess it's time to do it again regardless of this chewing incident. While I love the fact that I can open this filter in half, making it super-easy to deep clean...removing all 30 of those bolts can be a PITA, even with a cordless drill. :laughblue:

My dogs decided to chew on some of my pool equipment. Suggestions on fixing/replacing?

Yes, a fence of some sort is definitely necessary. I never imagined they'd chew on pool equipment, but I guess any piece of plastic might as well be an inviting chew toy for the pups.

My dogs decided to chew on some of my pool equipment. Suggestions on fixing/replacing?

Nope, no spa. My pool is as simple as it gets; vinyl 20k-gallon, in-ground, 2 skimmers and a main drain. Pump, filter, heater, back to pool. No automation other than the analog pump timer, no water features or anything else. Just a hole in the ground with water in it. :) Yes I was...

My dogs decided to chew on some of my pool equipment. Suggestions on fixing/replacing?

We have 2 dogs, both about 10-months old. They are large dogs (60-70lbs) and they like to play rough outside -- chewing on sticks, roughhousing with each other, digging holes. You know, normal puppy stuff that we're working on fixing. We've got a large backyard so I can't always see what...

    2019 Bleach Prices

Wal-Mart usually has their "Great Value Cleaning Bleach" for $1.77/gallon, 6% strength. Corresponds to about $0.23/oz of bleach. Almost always brand new, usually no more than a week old. The Pool Essentials 10% at that price is $0.25/oz of bleach. Not a huge difference but it does add up after...

All I could do was cringe. What's the recommended ppm for lava? :laughblue:

Are variable speed pumps as unreliable as the reviews make them seem?

Good to know, thanks! I looked into it for my electric provider. Duke Energy has a rebate program for up to $300 but they require that the pump be installed by "participating contractor". So most of the rebate would be spent having someone come install a pump, and they'd probably want me to...

Are variable speed pumps as unreliable as the reviews make them seem?

I've been looking at reviews for variable speed pumps for a bit and they all seem to be rated pretty poorly. Even the supposedly higher-quality and expensive Pentair pumps have some just terrible reviews (where the device dies and there's basically no or little customer service.) 3-years seems...

Chlorine Date Code Decoder/Easy Way to Measure Strength.

This is why I buy all my bleach from Wal-Mart. Their in-house brand ("Great Value") is $1.77/gallon for brand-new 6% bleach. Whenever I need some I'd estimate that 90% of the bottles on the shelf were made within the past week or two. It's always the cheapest and freshest stuff I can find.

    Hayward heat pump error code?

Hi all, I have a Hayward HP21002 heat pump, roughly 11-12 years old. I'm the 2nd owner, we bought the house 2 years ago. It worked well until late last summer when I got an "LP" error code. According to the user's manual and another troubleshooting document I managed to dig up, this can mean...

Keeping pool open in Raleigh, NC

I'm in Greensboro and close my pool each year. After a few seasons' experience it goes quickly. It's also one less thing I have to think about or deal with for 6 months, and it saves money on our electric bill as well.
