Question about my apartment complex's pool freezing over

To start: I used to own my own pool and used TFP's methods for keeping it in perfect condition (thanks!!), but that was before the divorce, and I no longer own a pool. Now I'm in an apartment.

Anyway...

What sort of damage might my apartment complex possibly have, since their pool here froze over today (and probably yesterday), along with water in the skimmers freezing? It got down to 6F last night and hasn't gone above about 26F today.

Background: While I was picking up a package at my apartment complex's front office a few minutes ago, I decided to drop by their pool and see how it's doing, just out of curiosity. There's no cover on the pool, and I don't think the pump was running. The entire surface of the pool was frozen over, about 1" thick (I broke some of it up with the handle from a pool brush to check the thickness), and there was ice in the skimmers, maybe 1/4" thick.

While I was there, I broke up the ice in all the skimmers (for what little good it might do, since it is 25F right now with a low of 16F overnight). I'm assuming they just "winterize" the pool by leaving the pump running, but don't actually know. We lost power for 5 hours today with some pretty cold weather (for our area, anyway). Maybe the pump got kicked offline when the power was out and just hasn't restarted?

With it being late afternoon on Christmas Eve, I'm not going to bother management here about it. I'm mostly just curious what sort of damage they might possibly have, with everything freezing like that.

Since they didn't properly winterize and lower the water level, they could have problems later with the skimmer(s) and tiles popping off. I wouldn't break up any more ice. It could cause more problems. As for the equipment (pump, filter, etc), I'm guessing those are in an equipment room so they might be okay. If not, they will experience freeze damage.

Sounds good, I won't break up any more of the ice. I broke up one small chunk just to see how thick it was.

Yep, all of the equipment is in a special room, inaccessible to everyone except maintenance.

I am surprised access to the pool isn’t locked- it should be . Most complex pools are closed to the public after a certain time of year unless they’re heated/indoors even if they don’t cover or winterize the pool.

They have a key fob access system for the pool, for apartment complex residents (which is how I got in). I was just the only resident here crazy enough (or stupid enough, not sure which) to be at the pool on December 24th when it was about 25F outside with the wind blowing.
