Pump dead

Today my 2hp Hayward Northstar finally died. It won’t start and interestingly this causes rather loud breaker buzz. The pump itself seems to be quiet but it does get warm. Can anything be said about the failure from these symptoms? A failed capacitor would cause the pump to hum I’d think, not the breaker.

Hmm, having difficulty locating my motor part# in the cross-reference document which is 193688. Looks like the motor uses a single run capacitor, what I have is 55mF/370V, I suspect it’s not original looking at the cap mfg. date. The parts cross reference lists 50mF as the largest run cap and dimensions/form match what I have, so chances are they slapped 55 instead of 50 which is probably ok, but it would be good to find out the original spec.

I’m up and running with a new cap. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Went with 50mF, given the 55 worked for 15 years it was probably not too far off.
