Just bought the house and the pool water looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in years.

The pool is really green and I have been able to get it down to lighter shade but I just ordered the vacuum and was wondering if the reason there’s so much algae left is because I haven’t vacuumed it yet or if there’s another reason. The pump and filter all work pretty well but just making sure it’s just not having a vacuum and not something else

Welcome to TFP! While I'm sure the pool is dirty, your primary reason for green./algae is most likely poor chemistry. If you don't already have a TF-100/Pro Series test kit, or a Taylor K-2006C test kit, that should be priority #1. We need to see reliable test numbers from one of those to really coach you through the clearing process.

In the meantime, be sure to update your signature with all of your pool and equipment details. The info is important for each response. We're happy to help you get through this.

Yeah I think I’m getting this one
I had one of those until I dropped it on the deck and it cracked.

Handle it carefully. It’s plastic.

It worked but was slow with a garden hose. It worked much better with sprinkler pipe.

Saw a video saying u should after a bad case of algae so I was just gonna order some just in case while I figure out how to check the sand

Lots of bad information is given on YouTube.

No reason to replace the sand after algae.

Sand is lost from sand filters over time, and every few years, the sand should be checked and raised back to the level recommended in the Installation Manual.

What model sand filter are we discussing?

I believe it’s a aquatools hi rate sand filter

A bit of sand is lost at every backwash.

You will probably need to add a 50# bag at the end of 5 years.
