Anyone got any bright ideas on how to remove this impeller set screw? Blew the shaft seal this AM. Opened up to replace out and this is what I’m left with. There is nothing to grip with a 3/8” driver.

Open to your wisdom.

Used this once, oscillating-saw blade, to cut a slot for a flat-blade screwdriver. Stainless-steel screw and just holding it in the impeller eye means a lot of work. Would just cut the impeller off after that. Challenger impellers aren't inexpensive. Seldom saw that kind of damage, usually from tablets in the skimmer.

I’ll give it a go.

5yo pool and pump. Never have used tablets. Was a liquid bleach pool until COVID, switched to SWG two seasons ago.

Thanks for advice.

Last weekend, I replaced seal plate, seal and impeller as I couldn’t get the seal and impeller to release due to corrosion.
I ended up just taking the bolts out of the seal plate and was able to rotate the entire assembly to remove the impeller. Might be worth a try and then you can figure out what you’re fighting from the back side.

I seriously abused the impeller/seal/seal plate to try to get it released. Banged on seal from motor side with large flathead, through whole assembly on ground, etc but it wouldn’t release under any persuasion.

Did you ever use tabs in this feeder?

No, never did. Tab tower was installed with builder and never used. I ran a bleach/liquid chlorine pool 2019, 2020, 2021 until COVID made the ROI not feasible and then switched to SWG two seasons ago.

Cut the tower out to install SWG. It’s currently behind my shed in the easement being used as a mouse house, which is about all that tab towers are good for.

Definitely odd that it wore down like that.

You can use a hole saw to cut around the screw and remove the impeller.

Then, you should be able to get a grip on the screw head.

Maybe use a file to cut flat sides on the screw head and then use a wrench.

The more you would "rotate the entire assembly" to remove the impeller, the tighter the impeller screw would become. They are left-hand threaded.

Well, after a day wasted, of course NO ONE sells pool parts because no one can fix stuff anymore and just hires out people. I went to three pool stores. All of them had nothing except chemicals, snorkels, and pool noodles. I needed either one Pentair quick fix kit and an impeller screw or like 9 things if they didn’t have that quick fix kit. I figured I’d just buy every gasket/O-ring and screw independently.

Walked into each pool store with part numbers and everything and came home with zero items and my tail between my legs.

Another local pentair part dealer store is of course closed on Saturdays and Sundays because that makes total sense.

So now I had to order all of this stuff online. Expected delivery for my reverse thread impeller screw? Sept 19th.

So I put it all back together, doused all O-Rings in silicone lube and basically now it only leaks like Niagara Falls when I’m at priming speed of 3200 RPMs. Barely leaks at 1700 RPMs so I’m going to run thing thing 24/7 at 1700 for the next four weeks until my pool gets colder, close it for the winter, disconnect the motor, and take it into my basement shop and fix it in the off season and I’ll let yall know on April 1 2025. Lol.
