Polaris Pump strange issue

Hi all. I just opened my pool after installing a new Hayward Tristar 900 VS pump, which is running well. When I turned on the auxiliary pump to run my Polaris 280 there is a loud noise, but even stranger is that the flow coming out into the pool from the Polaris line decreases, and the flow of water from the rest of the returns increases. It is almost like the Polaris is pumping water in the wrong direction. Any ideas or suggestions?

At what RPM is the Tristar VS running?

How does the Polaris flow do when the TriStar VS is running at max speed?

For now that I have it running at 2700 RPM since I am trying to get the water clean from just having opened the pool. But the only times I tried running the Polaris was when the Tristar was at max speed and that is when I encountered the problem.

One other thing I noticed today, I started adding stabilizer to my pool in my skimmer and I noticed that some of it started coming out of the returns. I am quite sure I plumbed the new filter correctly, so could there be a problem with the multiport valve?

I cannot tell since the picture you posted does not show the MPV.

Show us the MPV, the plumbing, and the valve setting.

I do not like the way the Polaris output line is pinched. The flow may be restricted when the booster tries to put more water through the pipe. I would get a smooth curve to a flex line or hard pipe it.

I noticed that I accidentally mixed up where the Polaris attaches in the pool and the adjacent return (which explains the reverse water flow when turned on). I also replumbed the Polaris intake. With all that, the Polaris now works normally. So thank you all for your input.

The issue that remains is why stabilizer placed in the skimmer ends up coming back through the returns. I know it should be placed in a sock in front of a return - but still there must be an issue with my brand new sand filter. I also see dirt (not filter sand) accumulating on the pool floor near the returns, so I guess the next step is to take apart the multiport valve.
