Since owning our pool, I have to add about 60 lbs of calcium increaser every spring when opening. This is the first spring opening with salt water and Ive had to add over 600 lbs of salt. Is it normal to lose this much salt and calciu?

Does your pool overflow from rain? Salt and Calcium leave the pool via displacement of the pool water with water with less salt and calcium in it.

Do you drain it at times, or just let it overflow? Last year I ran tests at different depths and it was 0s up top increasing to exactly how I left it on the bottom. I started hanging my pump in a bucket to get mostly top water (I used to put it on the floor)

As the water level dropped, the weight of the pump sank a little with it so it stayed draining the top layer.

After 3 hours of draining last time, I ran tests and it was still 0s up top, even after it mixed some from draining. I'm expecting to need less salt and CYA at opening, and even if I still need a bunch, it will be less than had I tossed the pump on the floor as I used to.

Thanks for the info. I think I may have found a culprit. I went to the equipment deck and heard water I removed a few deck boards and saw water springing from a conduit pipe. It must have been nicked. Any ideas on why water is running through the conduit? I believe it may be wiring to the spa light, not sure yet.

There is water in a light conduit as long as your water level is high enough. So that is a leak that needs fixed.

Thanks. That’s going to be a tough one to get to. Not sure it can be cut without removing the deck and framing along with the equipment on top. It’s not under pressure and can be stopped when I apply pressure with my finger. Do you think plumbers putty jammed in the hole wrapped with rubber and held with a hose clamp work? Any other ideas appreciated.
