I'm in winter conditions and have had a lot of dirt and rain water get in my pool. I put a new tab in and opened up the filter and hosed it out (didn't take the grids off the rack). Now my water is clear but I have what looks like pond foam on top of it. Is it the filter? If not, then what? If it is the filter, what do I do now?

How's your CH levels? Sometimes foaming can be mitigated with calcium .....at least 50 ppm on the ch test might clear that up. Worth a look. But I don't know why it's all brown like that, unless it's just dirty from winter time winds/dirt getting in.

Where did you put "a new tab?" Hopefully not the skimmer. One tablet won't make a dent in that much debris in any case. Did you add DE to the filter after cleaning the grids?
Can that "stuff" be removed with a net. It looks a lot like the blossoms of a Yucca tree. When they float around and decompose they give off oils that can cause foaming. Filter can't help with that.

The tab is in the floater, and yes, I added DE after cleaning the grids. BTW - any recommendations for grid cleaner? I've used this from Leslie pools in the past, https://lesliespool.com/leslies-spray-rinse-16-oz./14390.html, but at $35 a bottle I'm hoping to find something less pricey and more effective.

I'll check if the skimmer net will remove any of it tomorrow.

Usually it is better to get a filter cleaner that is used to soak the grids overnight. The sprays are good for a quick clean, but a soaking gets the filter much cleaner. The HTH brand that can be purchased at Home Depot has worked well for me in the past. Leslie's has a similar product for about the same price. Leslie's is labeled "Cartridge Cleaner," but it works with DE grids as well.

Do you have recent test results you can post? Your last PoolMath log is 3 years old and I suspect the primary issue is tied to water chemistry that needs to be solved, in conjunction with filtering.

0 chlorine, 30 CYA, hardness was down some, but we have hard water that usually balances it out. I'd dumped in a full gallon of chlorine the night before, so it definitely looks like it is time for a slam.
