so we recently replastered our pool and our main drain is broken. We don't want to fix main drain because there is a huge cost. so we were going to wait to fix that. is this safe to continue to swim this way??

You should be using a pool cleaner to get dust and dirt off the pool floor. The main drain does not do anything with that.
Chemistry will be fine without a main drain.

No. Main drains aren't necessary. Your pool cleaner will collect any debris that settles to the bottom. Chemistry is unaffected.
Are you able to seal the main drain off and plaster over it?
