We had a crazy storm last night. I added 3 gal of liquid chlorine after it was over and got it 90% clean. Robot doing the rest.

I tested my water

FC 4
CC - was almost clear, but added 1 drop <.5
CH 300
TA 75
PH 7.5
CYA in the 20’s. I’m raising to 30

Why do I have a chlorine smell?

Side note: I have been slamming pool for a few days. FC in the AM previous days was 1

Chlorine only smells when it killing something. From Pool School:

"Combined chloramines is an intermediate breakdown product created in the process of sanitizing the pool. CC causes the “chlorine” smell many people associate with chlorine pools. If CC is above 0.5ppm, you should SLAM your pool. CC indicates that there is something in the water that the FC is in the process of breaking down. In an outdoor pool, CC will normally stay at or near zero as long as you maintain an appropriate FC level and the pool gets some direct sunlight."

Your numbers look good.

CC was virtually clear with VERY slight color in the swirl part of the stirrer.

I added 3 gal of 10% chlorine last night. It got used up?

I’ve been doing this for a few days 1st time above 2.

Your chlorine is way too low. Make sure you are familiar with the FC/CYA chart, which is in my signature.

To prevent algae and maintain a sanitary pool with a CYA of 30, your target FC is 4-6. 2 is the bare minimum, and you want to stay well above this number all of the time.

A SLAM is a process to kill algae in your pool. That FC level is 12 for a 30 CYA pool and must be maintained at that level until all algae is dead, usually a week or more.

We can help you determine if you have algae present in the pool via an OCLT, but first and foremost you need to get your chlorine up to the 4-6 range for starters and keep it there unless you need to SLAM.

3 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine should add 13ppm fc to your pool.
Test 30 minutes after your next addition to confirm that it’s holding & see if your chlorine may be less potent than you think.
It degrades over time & with heat exposure. Check your date codes on the bottle.
