I’m being told I have chlorine lock.

We have added 10 gallons of shock in the last week. My brother is telling me to use this site and balance my own water and stop going to the pool store.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

28,

I agree with your brother.. Only the uninformed go to pool stores to have their water tested..

There is no such thing as 'Chlorine Lock"

And.. Normally to have what is called by pool stores "Chlorine lock" your CYA has to be really high, like well over 100.

Your CYA is only 40, assuming any of the pool store number are correct.

I suspect you just have algae, even if you can't see it yet.

Your FC is very low and I suspect that you are having hard time increasing it. That is because algae will eat your FC almost as fast as you can pour it in.

Adding Liquid makes sense, but just dumping in a bunch of chlorine and hoping is not the TFP way.

I suggest that you let your brother show you how it is done.. :poke:

You should perform what we call a SLAM.. It is a process, and not a quick fix (which won't work..)

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you Jim!! Can I use my Dolphin cleaner for the brushing part or could all the shock we’ve added mess it up?

28,

I am not a SLAM expert, but I suspect you need the action of the brush bristles to get at any imbedded algae. You could use both.

As the Rocket points out above, I mis-read your Pool Store results.. It appears you have really no CYA in your pool which I find almost impossible to believe. Without any CYA, any chlorine that you add will be gone in about a microsecond. :) Ok, maybe a few hours, but it won't last for very long.

I had 'assumed" that you were using chlorine pucks.. But your pool info shows Liquid Chlorine. Is that all you have been using?

Tell us more..

Is your pool green or cloudy? I assume it is...

If not, what problem are you solve.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Do you have one of the recommended test kits?

If so, add it to your signature.

Without accurate test results from one of the recommended test kits, it's almost impossible to know what your actual test results are. Pool store results cannot be relied upon as they are inaccurate and inconsistent at best.

My brother sent me a link to order the one he has. This is all new as I just mentioned the problems we were having. That’s when he told me about this site and doing my own chemicals and testing

If you order it this weekend, it will probably ship on Monday and you will soon be on your way to a trouble free pool.
We will be here to help along the way.

While waiting for your test kit, add 5ppm liquid chlorine daily.
Use PoolMath, set up for your pool to determine the quantity of liquid chlorine to add that 5ppm daily.

Ok, I don’t know if you saw it or not but we’ve added about 10 gallons of shock in less than a week. We just did 4 more tonight before I talked to my brother.

Dump and pray isn't going to work. Add only the amount needed per your own testing.

Adding too much "shock" all at once will bleach your liner.

Pool store test results are horribly inaccurate. Then they sell you stuff to fix their inaccurate testing. Rinse and repeat. Then they tell you your water is old and to replace it when they run out of stuff to sell you.

The TFP way tells you exactly what you need to add to your pool to keep it crystal clear and more importantly sanitized.

Read up on Pool School, and trust your test results. Don't go down the path of thinking that you need to go to the pool store for them to "check" your results.
