New pool build in NJ (2/16/23)

I'm late to this party but on the fence issue we used York Fence in NJ (not sure if you are North, Central or South) and went with Jerith Aluminum 5ft fence. On the pad be sure they label all the lines for ya or sharpie them if not all covered by now (oops picture shows covered up but you can use Ptouch label maker and put good labels on them). Future proof to know what every line is for. Pavers look great, which ones are those?

Yup. I took multiple videos and pictures of the lines before concrete and backfill went in. Also made labels for them:

This is Cambridge ledgestone 3 piece XL in slate.
Now I ran into one issue with the pavers. This was pointed out to me by my landscaper who also does pavers and said that the 3 piece pavers should not have 4 corners that meet. I look at Cambridge catalog and majority of their 3pc ledgestone pavers when laid randomly are arranged such that 4 corners do not meet. I would never had noticed. Not sure how much of a big deal this is. But now that its pointed out I cannot unsee it. Am I being nitpicky or is this something that should be corrected?

@Newdude your patio was cambridge ledgestone right? How were your pavers arranged?

Yes and they were arranged the same with at least this many 4 corner meets.

It won't bother me at all. 🤷‍♂️

*edit. Just found pics of my old patio and it had it too. It was not an issue when we moved with 8.5 years on it.

I have cambridge ledgestone smooth as well but didn't get the XL (wanted them but didn't initially select XL and then it was too late due to supply issues in 2020). Now I have to run upstairs and look down to see. Ok I just went outside and looked no four corners on the pool pavers or on the bluestone patio. Probably just luck but I cant imagine it could possibly matter in a few spots. Those things are heavy!!

Pavers almost done. Should be finishing up this Saturday.

Hardscaper brought this up to me. He will put a sponge material between pavers and coping. He said he can then fill it with polymeric sand OR fill with gray caulk. He said it was up to me. Should I choose one or the other? I'm leaning towards sand for uniformity with rest of pavers.

My guys used polymeric but he could use the deck o seal but its tricky if he hasn't used it before.

That's your expansion joint.

You'll want to use a sealant meant for concrete expansion joints.

This is just like a gray caulk (and might be what your contractor was planning on using.) I would recommend the gap overtop of the foam gets filled primarily with sealant. On mine, I sprinkled a small bit of poly sand on top of the still-wet sealant just to give everything a uniform look and color. But, don't do too much poly sand, because that stuff hardens up and too much of it would defeat the purpose of having an expansion gap.

Project is looking great!

Definitely not polymeric in that joint, it softens when wet and will displace bit by bit over time. The appropriate caulk will be good for a long time then dry out and need redoing. Nothing is permanent but caulk is better.

On the fence distance from the deck, have you decided yet? We really liked having more space inside the fence for landscaping (it's my thing). And with our elevation change, you don't see the fence in season, when in or sitting by the pool, on the lower side. We went from 5' to 30' away.

I just went out to look at mine again and you are right they used a caulking of some sort between bluestone coping and pavers. They used polymeric on the pavers. My bad, apologies there.

Thanks for tips. Pavers almost finished. Before and after pic attached. They're cleaning up and doing finishing touches tomorrow. Fence coming up mid next week. Working on getting sprinkler quotes... Got an American company coming in at 6k for repairs and new zomes and a landscapers friend who use to work for one offering to do it for half the price cash.

I ended up replacing the entire back yard (1/2 acre). If you are the *least* bit handy you can DIY for less than $1k. The 4 hour trencher rental from HD was less than $150 and I bought the supplies from an agriculture supply store for half the price of HD/Lowes.

Sprinkler quotes sound like north jersey prices. Those sound way too high.

Dang I paid $5k for my entire back yard redo which was a lot of zones. A quick tip get the heads that you can manually shutoff so if you have a spot say that stays wet longer than others or doesn't need it as much you can you turn that head off. I have the Hunter I-20 which has the flo stop. Its totally worth the minimal cost difference.

Nearing finish line. Fence completed. I hugged fence closer to pool mainly for safety reasons with young kids and give my kids more yard space.

Sprinklers next week, followed by 4k sqft of sod. Planning to do decorative stone around pool for a foot on all sides. The left and right sides are wider 3-4' so planning to mulch and add some shrubs/ornamental grasses. For right side may do privet or laurel hedge.

Still trying to decide what to plant between fence and equipment pad... Only have 5 feet to work with. Considering emerald green arborvitae or sky pencil hollies. Maybe install a trellis and have clementis there
