New pool build in NJ (2/16/23)

Nearing finish line. Fence completed. I hugged fence closer to pool mainly for safety reasons with young kids and give my kids more yard space.

Sprinklers next week, followed by 4k sqft of sod. Planning to do decorative stone around pool for a foot on all sides. The left and right sides are wider 3-4' so planning to mulch and add some shrubs/ornamental grasses. For right side may do privet or laurel hedge.

Still trying to decide what to plant between fence and equipment pad... Only have 5 feet to work with. Considering emerald green arborvitae or sky pencil hollies. Maybe install a trellis and have clementis there

Just opened my pool this week officially.

I did have to pop off the cover a couple times to lower the water level with the crazy rains we've had in NJ this past fall/winter. I was afraid of water level overflowing then freezing and popping off the coping.

I used this:

Everbilt 1/4 HP 2-in-1 Submersible Utility and Transfer Pump UTA02510 - The Home Depot

Also decided to do chemicals myself this year. PH was high. Had to go in and out a couple times from Leslie's pools. The guy told me not to use muriatic acid and told me to use dry acid. But saw that pentair specifically says not to use dry acid with their scwg. I was also scared of the muriatic acid. Finally returned the dry acid he sold me and got 2 gal of muriatic acid. It was actually not that bad or smelly. Just put goggles and gloves on and poured in front of my return with my pump running high.

MA is really not the scary monster that a lot of people think it is. It warrants respect and proper safety precautions, but is not as if it will kill you if you look at it sideways.

Dry acid adds sulfates as well as acid. Sulfates harm the coating on salt cells. Sulfates are like CYA. They don't degrade, you have to do a water change to get rid of them.
