Pentair Valve Actuator Programing Problems

Thanks everyone for your input! I won’t have time until tomorrow to test the actuator in Spa mode until tomorrow. I’ll move the the 3 prong socket over to that port.

This would actually be ideal if this works. I could just hit the blue valve button on the front of the easy touch and actuate the valve, turning on the water supply to my Pentair magic bowl. This is all I wanted to do from the start, push a button and the water starts flowing to the magic bowl. Eventually setting it up on a schedule when I work all the kinks out. I’m pretty sure I could set up pump speed also when giving the command.

Also the question was asked about the toggle function on the actuator. Yes it actuates and moves the valve when placed to ON1 and rotates the opposite direction and placed to ON2. I have verified with my volt meter there is not 24 volts from either switch leg to common when the actuator socket is unplugged and the panel is commanded to actuate.

Also the voltage is actually 29 volts AC that I am reading from the left pin to center pin, when the actuator is toggled to OFF.

It has to be the panel, almost certain at this point, if I have programmed it correctly and I think the feedback is that I have.

Thanks everyone! Keep you posted!

So, you have 24 volts from black to red or black to white when the valve is off but no voltage from black to red or black to white when the valve is on?

If yes, the socket is probably bad.

Is the 24 volts from black to red or from black to white when the valve is off?

You can try valve plug socket A or plug it into the Return valve socket and use either "Spa" mode or "Spillover" mode.

If you change to "Spa" mode, you have to have a "Spa" program circuit for the pump speed

What happens when the valve actuator is unplugged?

Do you get the correct voltages?

If you get the correct voltages when the valve actuator is unplugged, then the valve actuator is probably bad.

Is it a new valve actuator?

If you don't get the correct voltages when the valve is unplugged, then the board is probably bad.

There are several different ways to test and I am getting lost on exactly what is happening.

What about just flipping the switch on the actuator when you want the valve to actuate?

JamesW,

As long as one of the two wires has 24 VAC, then the actuator will move with the little toggle switch.

I think that the little relay in the EasyTouch, that selects which pin gets the 24 VAC, is bad and not moving. Or the relay driver chip that tells the relay to close is bad.

Time will tell.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Did you get the same results on all 4 plug sockets?

Maybe it is a bad actuator or a bad circuit board or maybe the programming is not being done correctly.

Try the valve actuator on the other 3 plugs.

The four black boxes below the sockets should be “single pole double throw” relays that switch power from the red wire to the white wire.

When the valve is not commended on, there should be 24 volts AC from black to red or pin 1 to pin 2 and not voltage from black to white or pin 1 to pin 3.

When the valve is commended on, there should be no voltage from black to red (Pin 1 to pin 2) and there should be 24 volts AC from black to white (Pin 1 to pin 3).

Maybe the relay is bad on the Valve B socket.

However, you have to be sure that the valve is actually being commended on.

Check the voltages from all 3 sockets and try the actuator on all 3 sockets.

If the system part number is a Pool and Spa model, you should have had 2 actuators included.

What is the system part number?

Maybe there are two actuators somewhere?

Hello

I pressed the valve button on the front of the easy touch. It started my pool pump, I must have a run time/speed set. However, it did not actuate the valve. I still have 24 volts on the red to black only, on all 4 ports. This does not go away when the valve button is pressed on or off. Is there a factory setting that needs to be turned on to use the valve ports? This is a new set up.IMG_2526.jpegIMG_2525.jpegIMG_2524.jpeg

Thanks

Hello everyone

I ended up getting a new mother board and now I can actuate the valve from Feature 1 circuit. However I have an additional problem.

When I turn on Feature 1 circuit, the valve actuates but the pump does not turn on automatically. I already assigned a pump speed to Feature 1. I checked minimum pump speed and it’s set at 1000 rpm’s so that’s not the issue.

What a pain! Any help is much appreciated!
