Yes, the top left port is connected to the pump, the lower right is connected to the pool return and the port on the opposite end is the waste or baskwash.

This is fine. Just ensure the word "inlet" on the 3 way valve is facing the pump inlet. The photo appears to be correct.

This is really looking good. Well done. That little sight glass on the waste line is to look at the water during backwash to see if it is clear or cloudy.
