Possible to have regular cartridge on a pentair Quad DE filter

A bigger filter can give you longer filter cycles between cleaning.

I would really go with a CCP 520.

You can add filter fiber with a cartridge filter if you want.

Product Description

The Filter Fiber Stuff combines high performance, outstanding value, and environmentally friendly features into one great product.

When used as a safe alternative to DE in DE filters, The Filter Fiber Stuff requires less than half the amount of product (by weight) than needed when using DE.

It can be used to enhance the filtering performance of sand and cartridge filters as well.

The Filter Fiber Stuff is non-toxic, making it safe to handle and store.

It can also be backwashed safely as it is biodegradable.

The Filter Fiber Stuff extends filter runs, reduces filter clogging, and results in sparkling clear water of the highest quality.

If you backwash a cartridge filter you will burst all the cartridges. They are not designed to handle reverse flow.

I have a QuadDE 100 and it’s an amazing filter but I plan to switch to a CCP 420 or 520 when the time comes to change it. I’m tired of dealing with DE. Cart filters are fine, I doubt anyone would ever be able to tell the difference just by looking at the pool water.

And it would give me more time between the deep cleaning periods, correct?
The bigger the filter, the more crud it holds before the flow is restricted. This goes for any style filter. Seeing how they last 20+ years for most folks, the cost increase is peanuts over their lifespan.

Oh great, I didn't expect so much answers (especially because I believe it was a "dumb" question), thank you guys!
Right now, I am debating between a CCP filter and a DE, I will "probably" get the quad DE 100.

I was believing, like you guys, Pentair would difference their filter with 1/4" diff or so just to avoid this kind of switch and be able to sell another filter... So I didn't check the dimensions at all yet, I just wanted to be sure and have your opinion on the "technical capacity" to switch cartridges without blow the top cover filter (or I don't know which craziness).

Plan to have the FullFloXF valve mounted on it. Backwashing the regular cartridges is a hazard issue or it would damage something? I will not, just curious.

Thank you so much!

DO NOT backwash a cartridge filter, they will be damaged.

Thank you guys for all your answers.
I will get the Pentair 160332 (CCP520). I wished to get and experience the Quad DE.
But nobody seems to enjoy DE filtration.
I am trusting your opinion.

Just one more question for the CCP520, any difference between the reference 160332 and EC-160332? Some websites have them as 2 different items.

The "EC" in the model number designates it as an e-commerce product sold through authorized online retailers. The product itself is the same, but warranties differ from "Trade Grade" products. EC products are best for those doing DIY installs.

Check out Pentair's warranty page for details.
