I recently switched from dichlor to bleach. My wife was concerned about getting bleach on her clothes. I was thinking I just needed to be a little careful when measuring it out, but I too have been annoyed with the design on the bleach bottles and always seem to have to wipe up drips.

I pour concentrated bleach from a 2L Clorox bottle into a beaker and carry that outside to dose the hot tub.

The wife is not going to want to do this and I can see some accidents in my future since a lot of the time I’m dosing the tub drunk at night.

I was considering buying a large pippette but I can’t seem to find one big enough to be convenient.

I also saw a product called splash free spout. Has anyone tried it?

Does anyone have any good ideas for dosing bleach without spilling or dripping?

Cheers,
Octoben

Stenner pump….but maybe thats more infrastructure than you have in mind….

Oh and this is a hot tub so maybe a pump is overkill
That would be awesome. I just searched and found a guy describing his hot tub stemmed setup, but looks like it’s uncommon and not as well adapted to hot tub. Would involve cutting a hole in the tub for injection and somehow timing the injection with the filter cycle. I’ll file this one under ideal awesome solution but not quite practical in my case.

Just checked the freezing point of bleach. It would definitely freeze in my climate so the stenner is out, unless it was all self contained inside the hot tub enclosure some how.

I use a 32 ounce bettix bottle that I bought for less than 10 dollars from bulk reef supply. You just uncap the second cap and squeeze the bottle. It has ounce and half ounce markings. Pour it into the tub and you never have to deal with bleach unless you’re refilling the bottle with a funnel.

Keep it out of the sunlight or it will degrade the chlorine.

I buy the 3.6L plastic jugs of 10.8% pool chlorine, and when I need to add chlorine, I pour from the plastic jug into a glass pasta sauce jar with mL/oz markings, which are accurate enough for my needs, then pour from the glass jar into the tub. No issues with splashing or drips.

Always store chlorine in the coldest part of the house, as it degrades faster at higher storage temperatures. If you live somewhere cold, you can leave the jug of chlorine outside until about -14C.

I buy a little 32oz bottle of unadulterated bleach from dollar general to leave on the patio near the tub & refill it from my big jug when it’s empty. It’s vented, opaque, & made specifically for bleach, it’s also labeled as such for safety purposes. When it’s seen it’s better days I buy a new one.
I use a $1 plastic measuring cup with a handle to measure my dose in & pour the bleach in the cup whilst over the water so if there are any spills they are in the tub. then pour the bleach from the cup in the tub & rinse it, cap the bottle & rinse that too if there are any drips.

Just estimate the amount by pouring directly from the jug into the water which lessens chances of spills and splashes. No need to make it harder with measuring devices. It a giant bucket of water, not a cake. 😉

I agree in a pool but in a small hot tub 4oz instead of 2oz can make a big difference (too much or not enough) so I always measure.

I do the same thing, but I bought these. I reuse them, but if I step on one, or somehow mess one up, I have others.

I keep a bottle of bleach in a storage thing I built next to my hot tub.

I normally measure out 2oz of bleach in a cup and leave it off to the side on a table BEFORE I get in the hot tub. That way when I get out (and it is dark, and I am wet, and it is cold) I don't have to mess around getting 2oz of bleach measured. I just take the cup and dump it in.

I have one of the “flasks” on the way. The one like a bottle of fuel additive but I’m been using a large syringe. Easy to measure but gotta be careful drawing up the bleach when the storage bottle is full so you don’t displace bleach from putting the syringe in.

I got the flask after. It had a 4oz capacity per pour. It works pretty well but honestly I find myself just using a pyrex measuring cup and pouring the bleach. I've gotten pretty good and not spilling.

I add required amount of bleach (~ 4oz - 16 oz depending) to the measuring cup, pour it in and "push" the water in the hot tub around with the measuring up to mix it up and to keep the bleach residual out of the measuring cup. I'll probably use the flask for when I have someone house sitting to make it easier for them to top up the chlorine.

Please 🙏 Get a plastic measuring cup- glass & pools/hot tubs don’t mix.
