This is the first year I have closed my pool myself. Last summer an end piece of the connector for my kreepy Krawler got stuck in my skimmer. It doesn’t affect anything or the operation of the skimmer but it won’t come out. We’ve tried everything to remove it. Anyway, the pool company that closed my pool last year couldn’t screw in the gizmo because of the stuck piece but they did something else instead but I can’t recall. I’m pretty sure they put some sort of plug in it but I’m not 100% certain. I’ve drained the water out to about an inch or so below my return jets. Since I’m not putting in a gizmo should I just pour in my antifreeze into the skimmer opening? Then put a plug in like was done last year? Is there any danger doing it this way? Thank you.

Stuff cut up pool noodles around the skimmer basket. It does the same thing as a Gizzmo provding a crush zone for ice.

This rings a bell now. I think what they did was they plugged it, and then put the empty jug of antifreeze in there. It’s all coming back to me now.

You want about about 1/4 left in the antifreeze jug (this keeps a portion of the jug in the water), and put something heavy on the lid if it doesn't have hold downs or screws. It fits in a skimmer perfect, you can also add a little antifreeze to the skimmer box.
