Hi, I’m looking to replace my existing pool equipment with a Pentair system - variable speed pump, electric heat pump, salt water chlorinator, filter.

I travel a lot and am looking to add a Wi-Fi controller to keep an eye on my pool whilst traveling.

Can anyone who have these systems give a review of them? Which is more reliable? Is there any other Wi-Fi system from a different company that’s best? If so, I can go with a different company’s pool equipment.

Thanks in advance!

The big three manufacturers are Pentair, Hayward and Jandy. All three have remote access functionality. A lot of people here like Pentair equipment especially the Intelliflo pumps. For Pentair automation you have the following options:
  • IntelliConnect (basic)
  • EasyTouch w/ Screenlogic (older)
  • IntelliCenter (newest)
Be sure to check out the Pentair Warranty Information to ensure you get the full 3 year warranty - you need to have a qualified installer and purchase everything on a single invoice.

Note: Qualified Installer - Defined as a licensed professional who charges a fee for his services, and possesses a business license, contractor's license and/or resale permit. Common examples of a "qualified installer" include: Swimming Pool, Home Repair or Landscape Professional; Plumber or Electrician; General Contractor; Heating and Air Conditioning Specialist.

Note: Bundled products - must be purchased on the same invoice and installed at the same time. If any product within a bundle is ineligible for the bundled warranty coverage then all products within the same bundle will be disqualified from receiving the three (3) year extended warranty coverage for bundled products.

The IntelliConnect only has two relays and no valve control. If you don't have a spa or any water features then that won't be an issue. It can control a heater through a fireman's switch. Also you're restricted to using an Intelliflo pump as the Superflo/Whisperflo VST aren't compatible. In addition you'd need an external power center for the IntelliChlor.

Take a look at the IntelliConnect Review (noting that the app is now Pentair Home instead of Link2O). It's a basic system that works for simple setups.

The Hayward OmniHub is a comparable system, but you would need a TriStar VSP and AquaRite SWG instead. Again this is an entry level system.
