What kind of liner do I have?

My pool is probably 20+ years old, in ground, rectangle. Bought the house long ago in a foreclosure so I have no info. Not sure if its fiberglass or vinyl. The corners don't seem to have any seams. The sidewalls in the deep end seem to be bowing in, just slightly, if that helps. There is real tile around the top. Trying to decide if saltwater is appropriate
Thanks in advance!IMG_5839.jpeg

A saltwater chlorine generator is fine for most common pool types - fiberglass, vinyl, plaster/gunnite.
All forms of manually added chlorine add salt to the water so it’s possible that you already have quite a bit of salt in your pool now unless you replace water frequently. Test the level with the Taylor k1766 before adding salt.
You want a swg rated for at least 2x’s your pool volume - so a 30k gallon rated cell or larger, as their ratings are based on running 24/7 @100%.

That's great to know. I had read it maybe wasn't great for vinyl. Is it hard on the pool equipment? I moving my whole equipment set up and buying most new everything, and one of the pumps was mentioned as being better built for a swg, which mad mea little nervous...

When poor chemistry is maintained or inferior materials are used the salt often becomes the scapegoat for the blame game.
If you follow TFP recommended levels then you will protect your people, surfaces & equipment whether you have a swg or not.

That swg pump stuff sounds like a marketing gimmick- a pool pump is a pool pump.
I see now you have a single speed pump - so upgrading that to a vsp will serve you well with energy savings & flexibility in operating your swg.

Do you have/ want automation? If so you will need to stick with one brand for your equipment so they can all be connected/talk to each other.
Otherwise some people are brand loyal, some are not. However, since you are replacing everything you may get a better deal bundling vs buying things separately- especially if you need to have it professionally installed which is necessary to get the full warranty from Hayward, Pentair, & Jandy.
Circupool is more diy friendly.

You basically want the largest of everything that you can fit in your space & also afford 😊
*An oversized filter means you don’t have to clean it as often,
*An oversized swg means it doesn’t have to run as much leading to a longer life.
*An oversized heater means more heat in less time.
*A vsp allows for high rpms when needed (like when manually vacuuming) & then low rpms for the rest of the time allowing for energy savings & constant filtering/skimming if you want.
