First season pool, Pentair system and water temp sensor has been working fine for a while.

Was on vacation and came back and sensor now reads really low. Like 28 degrees. Have calibrated it a bunch of times and it worked for a few hours last night into this morning - now it’s back to low again (39).

Searched and found plenty of threads where the opposite happened (104 reading when temp was actually much lower). Didn’t find any where the sensor reading was low though.

I have this installed in the pipe from pump to filter, on the top side of the pipe. Used the rubber O-ring, metal fastener, and silicone.

Random sensor failure? Short in a wire? Check connections first? Or maybe I’m calibrating wrong?

Actual temp is hovering around 80.

Be sure the wires are tight in the connector at the panel. Then, test the sensor:
How do I test my pool temperature sensor?
Testing. The sensor can be tested with a multimeter. It should read 10,000 ohms at 77F (25C) degrees. You can lookup other test values in the Temperature vs Resistance Conversion Chart for 10k Thermistors.

Got it, thanks all. I’ll try the replacement recommended and follow up if this doesn’t resolve it.

Is it odd to see a sensor go bad reading low opposed to high?

Unusual, but not unheard of. Since it is a relatively easy and inexpensive repair for a DIY person, its best to give it a try as the other option is the board, which is not inexpensive.

The new sensor worked for a few days - just had it out in the open air to make sure it was good before placing in the pipe.

Today it failed and I can’t get it back.

Swapped air and water sensors at the board connection and sensors seem fine (“air” gets a good reading from whichever sensor I use, “water” never does).

I sent a note to pentair and asked them to send a rep out. Hoping this is warranty since it’s <6 months old?

My guess is it’s a new board needed. Sound right?

I see “Pool Err” on the EZTouch screen and water sensor error in the app.

When calibrating in app, it says 0 degrees. When calibrating on panel, it is says 255 degrees. No changes (in app or at panel) have any lasting effect.

Also, any chance anyone can help me track down the right replacement board? Looks very simple to replace myself if I can get the correct board.

Your Signature shows an IntelliCenter. The picture above is a EasyTouch board. Which system do you have?

I’m just totally befuddled by this.

I swapped the wires at the board again (so air sensor is plugged in to water at board, and Vice-versa).

Unplugged main power connector behind board, and had breaker switch for board off.

Reconnected main power connected. Flipped breaker on.

Panel lit up, I gave it ~2 minutes, nothing ever showed up on screen.

Flipped panel breaker off 10 seconds, then on.

Now I have valid readings.

Will try doing the same process again and putting wires back to normal.

But what could be the culprit here? Seems like even if I get it working like this, it’s likely to be a temporary fix.

Any ideas on why swapping has it back working (on both sensors)?

Flipped back again and it’s working… for the moment.

We’ll see if Pentair will come out and take a look - I suspect the board is bad and it’ll “break” again in a few days.

But for now, we’re up and running. NOBODY TOUCH ANYTHING! 😂
