1. Cant Shock w/o getting Iron Stains & 2. Sodium Bicarb Making Water Milky

I managed to rig up some extra filter hoses and some backwash hose sections with hose clamps. Even managed to connect a backwash hose via hose clamp to that little piece of the drain valve that sticks out. It took many attempts and I came very, very close to using my chef knife to make a few drain slits, but its going good now.
So glad you did not have to use your chef knife lol. And happy to hear going good now.

Ok. Refilled the pool. Got some slight stains left but I think chlorine may take care of that. Its hardly noticeable. So here are my test results. Obviously have some balancing to do. The pH test was actually orange and not pink/red, bit the opacity matched somewhere between the 7.5 and 7.8.
So what to fix first??

Also, help me with the math so I know how much chlorine to add

Until the guys get back this should get u started
Add enough baking soda to get TA to 50
(About 1.5 lbs)
Test ta & ph after about 30 minutes to see where u are.
U need 30ppm dry stabilizer (put in a sock & hang it infront of a return not touching the pool wall) 21 oz.
5ppm of liquid chlorine stat - not sure what percentage u have
PoolMath
Will help calculate all amounts.

+1.

FC, and keeping it in target range is Job #1. That will require a couple extra doses until the CYA is well mixed. Undershoot the CYA a little, one for good measure and two, because your pools gallons is rated full to the brim. So you're likely some less than it said.

Get the TA up, adjust the PH if need be and road test how the PH holds.

You got this.

This. The pH test uses the color not the opacity so if it’s orange, that means it’s low.

And when it's low, it may be much lower than it looks at 6.8. So when you add from 6.8 to 7.2, it may only go up to a 6 from a 5.8(? Or whatevs). The confirmation test will then look the same as the original. Give each add 15 mins to mix and test/dose until it's readable in the 7s. (y)

I will NEVER add BS again… left me with an insane mess and half the reason I had to drain the pool. See early comments on this thread.

Is dry stabilizer for CYA? What do I use?
Also need some help on where to go to have pool math calculate. Im new to that app
Will go ahead and add chlorine though

U need the baking soda-
The reason u had a problem before is that they told u to put way too much along with the other chemical soup u had going on.
A pound & 1/2 won’t cause an issue. If u are worried add 1/2, wait a bit then add the rest.
Here’s a video of how to use PoolMath

This is dry stabilizer/cya u need 21oz.

It should say 100% cyanuric acid on the package somewhere whatever brand u get- available at Walmart, lowes, Home Depot etc

Also tonight u can do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to see if there’s still organics in the water.
If u pass —> maintain Target 🎯 fc levels or above daily
If u fail —> SLAM Process
Got any pics of the stains?
the stains are pretty faded now so they wont show on camera.. I can see slight stains in places, but nothing like it was... im tempted to let it ride for now... i used the bucket full of polyfill method to filter my hose water when i refilled

It is possible that the iron will show itself as u add chlorine - that’s when u will need the polyfill .

is there any other tests for that besides color matching? I feel like thats open to alot of error..

ooohhh I had some of that and returned it lol. i thought TFP was not a fan of these store products.

no I mean i used to polyfill already when I filled it this time hoping to avoid that. someone posted a video where they rigged up a bucket full of it and put the the hose in the bucket and let the filtered water run out the bottom. instead of buying a filter to install at the hose

The bucket thing is pumping water from the pool and filtering iron out after it precipitated out of solution by adding chlorine. I don’t think it works all that well for filtering fresh water with no chlorine in it. I though you were going for the charcoal filter?
