Omg just read the instructions for the pool pump. It says never run the pump dry.... um I had no idea. I thought you could just leave it on the cover, plugged in, wait for rain. Yikes...
Now I know what I did to the pump.

It depends on the brand/model. It needs a float switch to be automatic. Otherwise if it has power, it's just onI thought they turned on when they sensed water also.............
What kind of pump did you have? The ones I have seen for the auto covers have a float in them like @Newdude mentions that should only run when they sense they need to pump the water out like this one....I thought you could just leave it on the cover, plugged in, wait for rain.

That is what I keep on my cover, but like a sump pump, could have had a float go bad and then it just runs till it burns out. I just keep mine on the cover when its closed, fingers crossed, no issues yet.
Any questions asked are SMART ones.I have some dumb questions
Yes. 2X is plenty up north. But the math works in your favor or going bigger, so going to 60k would be 50% more life than the 40k unit at only 20% more cost.If we wanted to get one we would probably want an IC40 right?
That is great news! Not a lot of people would have taken it apart to see what's going on in there, but saved yourself from having to go get a new one!My husband took the pump apart and then put it back together. Tested it out, it's working again...![]()
