Hey, folks. Hope everyone is well.

Pool is doing awesome here in central Illinois. Can’t thank you enough for liberating me from the tyranny of the pool-industrial complex.

Question:

The little glass window on the pool filter is filled with green stuff… algae, I imagine.

I don’t think it’s a big deal as my pool chemistry is all copacetic. But I wonder if I should backwash to clear this up or just let it be.

Thanks!

Yes, it does.

I’ll try backwashing. Don’t know that I want to go to the trouble right now to remove and clean it. Just want to make sure there’s not something going on deep in the filter that the algae I’m seeing is a symptom of. Doesn’t sound like it’s anything that you’re worried about. :)

Just backwashed. No change. I’ll put cleaning it on my to do list, though. :)

Seems a bit odd to see that much accumulation if the filter is backwashed fairly often. Was it that way at opening? I assume you had to do some cleaning at the star of this season. I don't think it can cause any problems due to its location, but I would still clean it so that you can see through the glass as intended. You might consider opening the filter to inspect the sand and perhaps do a deep cleaning of the sand if you haven't done that in a while.
