First, I'd like to say thank you to this entire community for all the amazing information. I have a 7700 gallon 18'x4' bestway pool, and thanks to all of you my water is sparkling and beautiful.

My question is about my daily maintenance dose of chlorine, and if the amount is normal. I have to add about 40 oz. of 10% liquid to maintain the 6ppm recommendation that I see in pool math.

Today's test is as follows. All tested with the Taylor K-2005, Borates tested with LaMotte Borate test strips.

Temperature = 82°F
FC = 2
TC = 2
PH = 7.6
TA = 70
CH = 250
CYA = 50
Borates = 40ish.. (The strips are hard to really see.)

I then made 2 adjustments.. I added 18 oz. of bicarb to bring the TA up to 80, and I added 40 oz of Chlorine to bring the FC up to 6.0

My pool is sparkling and beautiful, It just seems like 40 oz. per day is a lot of chlorine.. I just need a sanity check here. It's pretty much the only thing that I have to do daily, I just want to make sure that this is a normal daily dosage.

Welcome to TFP.

40 oz of 10% liquid chlorine in your 7,700 gallon pool is 4.1ppm/day.

If you are using 6% bleach then it would be 2.5 ppm/day

If your 10% liquid chlorine is a bit old then your FC consumption if in the 3's/day.

Average summer time FC consumption is 3-4ppm/day.

I think you pass your sanity check.

BTW, a TA of 70 is fine. TA down to 50 is ok. I would not be yo-yoing your TA and pH until your TA is below 50. Leave it alone.

FC minimum is 4, for a CYA of 50. See here -->>FC/CYA Levels

You are flirting with algae allowing your FC to get this low.

Better to keep your FC closer to the top of the recommended range of 6-8 for CYA of 50.

If you keep your FC at 8 and have an FC demand of 3-4, being at 8 will protect you from going below minimum!

Understood. Thus the daily adjustment to 6ppm. looks like my usage is approximately 4ppm per day.

What I am saying is that you should make your daily adjustment back to 8. You never want to let your FC go below minimum, that is when you will get algae. Minimum for you is 4. Even for a day!

My minimum is 3. If I go to minimum, just one day, I will get a bloom.

Target 8. If you use 4 during the day, you won't go below 4.

Ahh, I see what you mean. It hasn't been an issue, but this makes sense. I'll make that adjustment. Thank you.

Gotcha. This is the piece of info I was looking for. Daily PPM usage.
As for TA and PH, they haven't been yoyoing at all, I just made this adjustment to bring the LSI back into check. It's the first PH/TA adjustment I've made in the last 2 weeks.

LSI is not about corrosiveness of water.

Low LSI can be AGRESSIVE to plaster and etch it by pulling out calcium. Not a factor for metals.
