1st Time New Pool Owner ( Long time hot tub owner ) …GREEEEN 🤮

Sorta - the ph one is the only color matching one
All the rest use more than 1 reagent & the end point is a completely different color.
Cya can be a little tough to get but do it outside while its still daylight for the most accuracy.

Can I read the bible later tonight and jump to testing using the coloured instructions in the lid ?
Yup. Same instructions. Take each test and gather your bottles / vials needed. Go through one silly step at a time and It couldn't be simpler. Glance at the instructions as a whole and it's rocket science.

I documented my experience Here

The vial that ia a tall and skinny beaker. Fill it to the 10ml mark. You can run the test a few ways using different amounts of pool water. 10 ml measures each added drop as 1/2 FC. 25 ml of pool water measures each drop as 1/5 FC. We don't need FC accuracy down to .2 so .5 is plenty close enough and it saves supplies.

Hard plastic
Here’s the taylor guy doing it- he is using 25ml’s of pool water & 2 dippers of powder
You can just use 10mls of water & 1 dipper of powder. Every drop of reagent counts as .5 ppm

Thanks a lot . So a dipper is the one scoop of powder . On the lid instructions , it gives you two diff ways to get chlorine . I’m sticking with the 2nd one that says “ free and combined “ ? And for combined chlorine , is he using the same sample he just mixed for the free? Or did he start over with fresh pool water ? Sorry for so many questions , I just want to get this right 🤓

Yup. CC is done immediately after FC with same sample. If the drops don't make the sample pink, it's 0. And move on. If it goes pink you count the other drops again, 1/2 each. If you let the test sit, it may go pink again. That doesn't count. Get what you need to see and dump it.

I'm not sure about the #s for the ammonia test, or what it's accuracy is at a low amount. But ammonia will zap both your CYA and your FC. If the FC drops considerably in 10 minutes, it's ammonia. So if that 16FC is from previously, you don't have ammonia. If you had just added to It, It may be gone already.

OK so there is no ammonia then. (y)

Get 30 ppm of CYA soaking in a sock away from the wall. Return later to squeeze it out.

The Ph is invalid at 10+ FC. Let the FC drift down to 9. Verify its a low 7 and correct it of it isn't with PoolMath and Muriatic Acid. Then it's time to SLAM Process

Read up. SLAM Process. Read, process, and read it again. Ask away at any time.

It's a process and the M(aintain) is critical. The longer it goes below SLAM FC, the longer it takes. Testing and adding every 2 hours is preferable at first. Usually with a similar swamp, you need 2 hour testing the first day, 4 hour testing the 2nd day, and after that it holds 8 hours. (All SLAMs being different of course). If you were to start on Saturday, you can run errands all weekend by dosing before you go to buy yourself the next amount of time away. By Monday it's holding long enough to go back to work.

Thank you for looking my results over and getting me started . I can get pool stabilizer ( I believe this is how you add cya) from Canadian Tire here General PDP Template | Canadian Tire
Or Walmart here
How much should I buy and how do you know how much 30ppm is ? Pool math calculator?
