Temporarily liquid chlorinating....but SLAM first?

So I have SWG parts on order and will be liquid chlorinating for probably 3-5 days. Did the initial opening w/ shocking, water cleared up well, didn't realize the SWG wasn't working right away.
So the pool has not had any chlorine since the initial shocking at opening (Saturday). The water still looks good I guess, but I'm guessing it's not since it's been untreated for 4+ days, and my CYA
was on the low end. I'll be using 12.5% chlorine.

CYA: 30-40 (target 50-60)
FC: 0 (target 5)
ph: 8.2 (target 7.4)
Salt: 3000ppm

I don't have other test results handy. I can do a strip test tonight, to confirm and give other reading on the strip as well. (I have the TF-100 kit on order).
I'm assuming I should be going with a SLAM to start? But I'm not sure when my test kit is going to arrive with the FAS-DPD and I doubt just waiting is my best course of action.
I'd like to begin correcting things tonight since I'll be home a lot the next few days to babysit.

Any advice would be great on if I should jump into SLAM procedures or just go for a 're-shock with liquid chlorine then try to maintain levels.

Thanks!

Right right, hopefully test kit will get here soon. I'll aim for the 5ppm per day until then, thanks!

And also work on my other readings to get those balanced as well. (ph/CYA)

So I added the pool math recommended amount of liquid chlorine (90oz of 12.5% chlorine) to bring my pool from zero to 5ppm FC.
I put it in and checked back about 3 hours later, and the pool was at about 1ppm FC.
I only have strip tests atm. I'll check it again very early AM as well.

If it's back to zero in the AM, I'll re-add the same amount of chlorine and try to check it within 30 minutes to see if it is getting up near the 5ppm or not.

I was at 0 this morning. I added a gallon of 12.5% (a little more than suggested), checked 30 mins later, and was reading 5ppm on a strip test.
I'll check it again in 2 hours to see how fast it goes. If it goes quickly, I'll add again at night to do an overnight test.

Yeah, it wouldn't be super accurate I guess. But if it goes from 5ppm to zero it would be a loose determination.
But yeah, you're right...definitely impatience waiting for the test kit to arrive! :ROFLMAO:

My test kit and SWG parts should all be here early next week, so good news there.

Had my pool at 5ppm FC, and still had 1 or so ppm FC after 24 hrs. I'll keep adding 5ppm each morning until I can run a OCLT once I have a real test kit. Seems to be trending in the right direction though.

Okay, so here are my current pool levels this morning (FC tested at 4ppm last night, after sundown)

FC: 2.5-3.0ppm (tiniest bit of color left after 5 drops)
TA: 65
CH: 275
CYA: under 20
ph: 7.4
CL: 3+
Salt: This test didn't work for me, liquid was getting cloudy, but no color change to 'salmon-y, brick red) I'm going to re-do it soon. My SWG is reading 3100ppm, and 2 pool stores had it at similar the past week or so.

So I took the FC reading at about 7am , and I dropped probably 1-1.5ppm overnight, let me know if you think I should go into SLAM protocols.
I'm leaning yes since I'm either right at or over the 1ppm loss.

Yes, start a SLAM. It probably won't take more than a couple of days. Try another OCLT after the 2nd day.

Ahhh, thanks...was just asking about my CYA, I'll get that to 30, then get my FC to 12...and go from there with FC testing. Thanks!

Get your CYA to 30.

Then lower your pH to 7.2-7.4. Adding the CYA will lower your pH a bit.

THEN get your FC to 12 or 16 if you overshoot your CYA 30 and round up to CYA 40.

Follow the SLAM Process step by step for best results.

So with my CYA 'under 20' I added a 2lb cyanuric acid sock to the skimmer...which should raise it by 15. At this point, maintain 5ppm FC until my CYA is officially up, correct?

You can assume your CYA is between 30 and 40 so call it 40 and use SLAM FC of 16.

Reduce your pH and move forward with the SLAM Process
