Central Texas DIY 20x44 Vinyl Liner Build Done

We were supposed to have the bottom finished last week but then it rained so we got pushed off waiting for it to dry. Fingers crossed it happens this week.

The long weekend saw loads of top soil brought it, the yard graded, grass seed thrown down, some plants planted, ladder hinges installed, deck lights installed and the autocover motor/tube put in. Feels so much closer now.

The guy who we hired to do the bottom finishing started last week and claims that he'll be done "by Friday or before". History with him says not to hold my breath but at least something is happening.

Our electrician (who's great) got some work done on the equipment pad and autocover motor over the weekend. Should be back some evenings this week (commercial guy who moonlights) to do some more work.

I'm incredibly sad the pool bottom isn't done by now. I have weekend plans and a business trip next week so I have no idea yet when we're going to get the liner installed. Any ideas on how long it might take from unboxing to turning the vacuum on? I might be heartbroken if it gets filled while i'm gone but I don't want to make my husband and daughter wait.

oh! I should add - I've received 25 bags of salt, 6 gallons of muriatic acid, 3 gallons of conditioner (doing liquid for start up and then will probably switch to granules for maintenance) and some liquid chlorine on the way (if it's too old, i'll go find local but time/cost benefit was in favor of trying to have it delivered)

Totally get wanting to be there for the milestones on the build, but I’d view this as a win. You go away and get to come home to a finished product! Assuming you trust your husband or whoever else to do it right ;)

This is 2022 people !!!! FaceTime or whatevs is your preference.

I'm at the point I might go away just to see if the universe will toy with me further by finishing while I'm away. :ROFLMAO:

ahahaha you're right. I'm hoping we have a chance to hang the liner before I leave and then it's just the filling I miss. We'll see!

Sub says he's "shooting" to do pool krete tomorrow. If he does, I assume we can hang the liner Friday or should we wait more than 24 hours?

Question: We got these foam corner inserts (basically a triangle to square off the inside corners). I was given the impression it doesn't matter if you pool krete them in or not. Has anybody seen these and have thoughts on their use?

No clue on either of these, but I'm curious  for the responses you get. Would think you'd want to wait longer than 24 hours though IMO.

OH NO! Tell him you will labor for him!!! You can push the wheelbarrow!
ahaha right! I tried to lay on a little guilt saying how my husband was busy Sunday and I had a work trip next week so it wasn't convenient for us. He then offered to put the liner in for us but honestly, I just want to be done with this guy. And we can probably find a couple hours on Sunday so.....

Good luck! I know I’m a broken record on all my posts, but having a PB/contractor who is actually doing work, whether quality or not, and communicating with you, I will take that in a heartbeat! Hope you don’t get pushed back any further.

Haha yes, I've been following your thread so it's better than that but his communication/speed is still quite lacking. One day he said he'd be there at 9am, didn't arrive until after noon. But he DID arrive so there's that. Hasn't put in more than 4 hours work in a day. I can't imagine trying to build a whole pool with this guy. Our other subs have all been amazing!

Our nanny just sent this photo. I don't even know what's going on at this point. He told me he only had a crew of two today but would have six tomorrow to get it done. I assumed it should all get done the same day? Although, I guess he could do the steps since they're completely separate from the bottom.

Yay I guess? :ROFLMAO:

My husband went home early because we are getting part of our AC unit replaced today (its been 100+ and will continue to be). The pool electrician is also working today and told him the concrete guys left "when the lady that was with them started throwing up".

Thinking it's probably heat exhaustion/stroke. In my picture you can see she seems to be wearing jeans. 😬

Question: I guess I don't need to water the pool krete like I did the decking? Do we care less about it's cure speed because it's about to get lined and filled with "cool" water?

She/they get a free pass for trying. Gold stars all around. (y)
Question:
No idea. Hang tight for someone who does.
