Switching to SWG - Water Chemistry Questions

Hello All,

I bought a salt water generator (RJ-30+) to replace the chlorine tablets I am currently using for our swimming pool that we had installed last year. I believe I have everything covered for the installation of the generator but I am not clear on what my water chemistry should look like before I make the change. Right now, I have high CYA (~95 PPM) and low PH (6.8-7.0, I'm trying to bring it back up) but the other items I can test for seem to be in line (TA, Calcium Hardness, etc).

Should I have the pool water in a certain state before making the change and adding salt? My issue is I have to use tabs because I am not in a position to add liquid chlorine daily so the CYA issue will just continue to rise and cause other issues. I am thinking of getting the PH in the correct range and then installing the generator / salt. I can then drain & fill to get the CYA down and then add more salt if needed. Is this the correct sequence? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Other than having all of your water chemistry within the TFP recommended levels, adding salt at least 24 hrs before starting the SWG is required. CYA should be between 70-80, so obviously you're on the high side. If you elect not to exchange some water to lower the CYA, you'll have to ensure you maintain a slightly higher FC level per the FC/CYA Levels. If you elect to lower the CYA by changing some water, do that first so you don't waste chemicals. Hope that helps.

Once you stop using tablets your PH will go up some also so don’t worry a lot about PH at first. Mine seems to enjoy staying around 7.5
Once you get it dialed in you will be shocked at how stable your levels stay other than adding a little liquid acid every couple weeks it runs it’s self 😎
